DESCRIPTION:
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:
An integral part of the Executive Leadership Team and serves as the district leader in the Superintendent's absence. Provides executive-level assistance to the Superintendent of Schools by driving communication, collaboration and coordination of the executive team to implement the Strategic Planning Framework and the District Strategic Plan. Leads key initiatives and facilitates communication to improve student performance, prepare all students to be college and career-ready and close the opportunity and achievement gaps. Assists the Superintendent with information to the Board of Education and other internal and external stakeholders. Under direction leads the strategic monitoring, analysis, and reporting of system-wide data; engagement and collaboration with government, community, business and higher education partners; and effective and timely communication of information through innovative and varied approaches. Assists with the workflow of the Superintendent's office to ensure quality and timeliness including reports, correspondence, and related items are met. Supports leadership for the executive staff meetings, and preparation for Board of Education meetings (i.e., preparation of agenda items, interaction with executive staff in the preparation of materials and presentations).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of EHPS programs, strategic initiatives, procedures and practices, policies and regulations, and budget; experience in coaching and evaluating teachers and administrators; demonstrated ability to organize and supervise cross-functional teams, to manage and deliver large-scale projects, to handle diverse needs of stakeholders, and to collect data/information and create necessary information to support the workflow in the Superintendent's office.
Demonstrated data and program analysis skills
Success in coalition and relationship building across a diverse group of stakeholders
Demonstrates cultural competence and a deep understanding of and empathy for issues facing diverse groups
Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills
Experience working closely with school administration and faculty
Can work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, Google applications, and social media platforms
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree required from an accredited college or university with coursework in educational administration or a related field; minimum of 3 years teaching experience; minimum 5 years demonstrated success leading a team of educators to improve student achievement; previous school-based and central office administrative experience required; secondary administration experience preferred but not required; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders; proven ability to maintain effective working relationships with others and serve as a contributing member of a high-performing team. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Connecticut State Department of Education Administrator (092) certification
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend work 12 months of the year
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent
EXAMPLES OF PERFORMANCE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate overall programs, services, and activities
Ensure programs meet state objectives and the needs and interests of students
Manage program budget, hire and supervise staff
Ensure and enforce compliance with district policies and procedures for all staff
Manage and provide staff development opportunities for staff and volunteers
Conduct regular staff meetings
Ensure a productive work environment across the district
Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders, and organizations
Perform all other reasonable duties as assigned by Supervisor
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Superintendent in formulating a philosophy and objectives for the instructional programs of the district;
Leads the coordination of enacting the strategic plan and district priorities, accelerating academic achievement, and supports the execution of daily operations of all functions in the district as needed
The Deputy Superintendent is directly responsible for district administration in the absence of the Superintendent
Assist the Superintendent and other administrators and staff with the linking of the strategic plan priorities with the instructional, staff development, and financial goals and operations
Under the direction of the Superintendent, acts for, represents, and exercises the authority of the Superintendent in directing the implementation of school system plans, policies, protocols and programs
Serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team
Oversees the district professional development program and ensure its interrelationship with student achievement
Oversees and monitors the EHPS evaluation system in collaboration with appropriate administrators
Oversees and supports the formulation, planning, and implementation of the professional learning program for all staff
Establishes and maintains efficient administrative procedures to support the teaching and learning functions of the district
Assists in the creation of all reports, records, and other paperwork as required by the School Committee, the State Department of Education, and the Federal Government, or paperwork that may be appropriate to the district's administration
Assists in the development of academic related budgets based including staffing, instructional materials and resources
Promotes effective communication and cooperation among all staff and members of the school community
Directly assists school(s) to build leadership capacity, culture, systems, structures, instructional practices and philosophies
Guides the development, implementation, and evaluation of in-service training programs for professional personnel
Serves as a member of the district's professional development committee
Supervises teacher and administrator evaluation processes; evaluates assigned administrators
Oversees support and supervisory review set in the EH PD and Educator Eval. Plan and the EH PD and Administrator Eval. Plan
Coordinates efforts to effect continuity and articulation of the Prek-12/adult education instructional program
Supervises and monitors development, review and distribution of curriculum, curriculum guides and related materials
Support administrators in the implementation of school improvement plans
Coordinates and leads the district data team and oversees the implementation of the district strategic plan
Supervises the review and implementation of district-wide assessment programs and other evaluative measures
Supports the research and evaluation of new instructional materials, methods, and programs for adoption
Supports parent involvement efforts at the district and school level and appropriately responds to parental inquiries
Monitors student progress at all levels and collaborates to supervise the preparation of an annual report
Under direction, addresses public and parent information regarding student assessment
Prepares and reports to the Superintendent on the progress of curriculum initiatives
Coordinates efforts regarding program evaluation and curriculum improvements; coordination of the EHPS Curriculum Committee; serves as the BOE's liaison to the Curriculum Committee
Participates in recommending new courses, grade placement, credits and graduation requirements
Aligns and recommends district technology development and integration to current and future educational needs
Collaboratively supervises instructionally related major grant programs
Provides academic feedback in the development of educational specifications for remodeling projects or new construction
Supervises preparation of student enrollment and other education data for reporting to the state and federal government
Supports budget development as directed for all academic areas
Attends Board of Education and relevant committee meetings as directed
Oversee Board of Education policy review, revisions and implementations as appropriate
Demonstrates an ongoing interest in educational concerns and professional growth
Maintains confidentiality regarding personal employee information and supervision as appropriate
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a 12 month, non-bargaining unit position that is part of the Executive Leadership Team. The salary for the 2024-2025 school year is set at $182,512.53. Full benefits included (medical, dental, life, voluntary life, Long-Term Disability).
