JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to a Sergeant, responsible for the enforcement of state laws; preservation of public order; protection of life; and the prevention, detection, and investigation of crime under the jurisdiction of Williamson County.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Patrol
Provides service, information, and aid to citizens as circumstances require
Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances
Investigates criminal offenses and detains, restrains, and makes arrests, when necessary
Works with and addresses community groups to foster good relations with the public
Responds to emergency calls and non-emergency complaints
Enforces traffic laws and investigates vehicle collisions
Recovers lost or stolen property
Attempts to locate missing persons
Patrols property by means of vehicle or on foot
Specializes in the enforcement of specific Texas Codes, as required
Testifies as a witness in civil and criminal court proceedings, when necessary
May serve court processes, collect evidence, and guard or transport inmates
Maintains knowledge of technical and operating principals, practices, and problems of law enforcement and crime prevention activities
Maintains general knowledge of the Texas Penal Code, Texas Transportation Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, Family Code, Texas Education Code, Health and Safety Code, Agriculture Code of Texas, etc, with specific knowledge of code directly related to unit for which the deputy is assigned
Possesses knowledge of the use and care of vehicles, firearms and specialized equipment
Maintains level of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties of a peace officer
Maintains Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing requirements such as firearms qualifications, continued education, etc.
Performs special duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Position involvessafely operating a motor vehicle and mobile radio equipment under normal and emergency conditions without any equipment modifications specific to any individual operator
Position involves driving and sitting for long periods of time
Position involves pursuing violators on foot over rough terrain and obstacles
Position involves physically subduing and restraining aggressive violators
Position involves discharging a firearm with either hand
Position involves hearing audible sounds and speaking in a clear, understandable voice
Position may involve working day and/or overnight shifts
Position involves dragging a minimum of 165 pounds (training/recruitment mannequin) in a manner consistent with rescue and restrain maneuvers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent

Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) training
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or experience in a related field
TCOLE Intermediate Peace Officer license or higher
Bilingual (Spanish)
