Who You AreThe Spaceship Company (TSC) is seeking an experienced and inspired Deputy Program Manager to support the SpaceShipTwo (SS2) program, for the modifications, upgrades and in-service support of SpaceShipTwo. This role will be responsible for managing schedule planning, manufacturing coordination, material sourcing and acceptance, coordination, budget planning and status reporting for all SpaceShipTwo program tasks to support delivery and in service support of our client, Virgin Galactic. This position will work closely with the SS2 Program Manager to lead and manage the cross functional organization that supports SpaceShipTwo to ensure that the program requirements are met.

Your Mission

  • The Deputy Program Manager provides direction and oversight of the SS2 program goals on behalf of the Program Manager

  • Work with SS2 Program Manager to deliver project on time and budget

  • Provides overarching manufacturing coordination for the SS2 Program

  • Work with the scheduling team, manufacturing engineering team and production control to assure smooth transition from engineering release to the manufacturing team and into inventory

  • Identify tooling, materials, resources, vendors, planning, and engineering to work in the most efficient manner possible. Work with engineering, supply chain, tooling, etc. to harmonize the schedule

  • Work with production control to assure work flow, jobs, outsourced jobs, and required materials are available to support schedule

  • Coordinate the efforts between all manufacturing functions and vendors to properly support the build schedule

  • Resolve conflicts in schedule and resources with functional managers

  • Manage the program risk assessment process

  • Conduct briefings and review for the program team and company leadership

What you bring

  • 5+ years of demonstrated program leadership experience with planning, engineering, production, assembly and systems integration teams, at least 3 of which were in a managerial role

  • Experience with composites fabrication, assembly and systems integration

  • Excellent knowledge of component assembly, both subassembly and final top level assembly

  • Experience with aerospace systems integration, large-scale test and flight test

  • Experience and/or training in lean principals and leading or participating in process improvement workshops or kaizen events

  • Working knowledge of configuration management practices and quality management processes

  • Experience with manufacturing based ERP systems a plus

  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to lead, motivate and build teams

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, combined with a strong commercial acumen to measure the potential impact of each decision

  • Excellent organizational skills, easily capable of effectively juggling and completing multiple tasks at the same time and thrives under pressure

  • Highly autonomous with effective delegation skills

  • Extreme attention to detail and continual pursuit of perfection

Who You Are The Spaceship Company (TSC) is seeking an experienced Deputy Program Manager to join our dynamic team to assist the Program Director Customer Support in leading the customer support activities for the Space Flight System (SS2 and WK2) programs. The initial purpose of this role is to develop the processes and establish the cross functional team to support SFS customer operations to include tech pubs, sustainment engineering, field support and spares. The long term expectations for this role is to use the foundation of the SFS customer support processes to grow into a dedicated customer support organization that will support all TSC programs and customers. This role is perfect for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who is excited about developing a vision for and building a new cross-functional team within TSC. You will need to be a technical hands-on person with great attention to detail, organizational skills and excellent people skills. Your Mission In support of the Program Director Customer Support you will perform the following: * Work with the TSC and VG teams to define the processes, tools, and people required to develop a strong and robust customer support program for the VG Space Flight System (SFS) * Complete gap analysis between current state operations and the requirements for the future operational tempo for VG, and develop a roadmap that helps both companies succeed together in future operations * Develop a vision for the Customer Support team, and mentor TSC team members to grow and execute the vision * Be an advocate for the Space Flight System: provide heartfelt service by acting as the voice of the customer within TSC balanced with being the voice of TSC with our customers * Work with TSC and VG leadership and functional teams to complete negotiations of customer contractual agreements to support SFS operations * Work with TSC's supply chain team in defining/providing spares and technical customer support to the customer(s) as agreed in Master Services Agreement(s) * Lead specific cross-functional program teams (Engineering, Production, SCM, QA, Flight Test, etc) to develop solutions for supporting customer operations of the Space Flight System: * Developing logistic support plans for spares, resolution of AOG conditions, and vehicle repairs and modifications * Develop engineering plans to update drawings as needed to support procurement of spare components * Work with functional teams to lead the completion of the technical publications required to support long term commercial operations. * Manage and lead the integrated program team in defining the overall scope, schedule, and budget for the Sustainment SOW for TSC support of SFS commercial operations * Ensure the handover of the technical product to VG is complete and there is a long-term technical support plan that both TSC and VG endorse * Define the content and lead the completion of Readiness Reviews for transitioning to Customer Operations for SS2 and WK2 * Work with IPT leads for the program to ensure each discipline has a clear path to Commercial Service * Work with support organizations (engineering, production, production control, supply chain, etc.) to ensure all parts, equipment, and resources required are available on schedule to execute the plan * Coordinate with other Program Management and Functional Managers to insure individual program needs are being met during development of all processes in support of customer operations * Develop and manage support program plans and communicate to the program manager, program team, and TSC leadership * Lead functional teams to complete resource planning for overall long term SFS customer support, and insure that the team is appropriately staffed * Develop consistent, concise and informative metrics and status reports for reporting program performance to program and executive leadership and the wider organization * Hold periodic program reviews with leadership and the program team * Interface with other program leaders to assist senior leadership with setting priorities and meet company goals * Support TSC leadership in development of corporate and program strategies * Execute strategic goals and objectives in support of the overall company goals and objectives * Execute other duties as assigned by the Program Director in support of this role * Problem solve TSC design, tooling, manufacturing, and planning questions raised by VG in a daily Ops meeting * Travel every month or two to New Mexico to support SFS operations in a Customer Support role What you bring * Bachelor's degree required and MS preferred from an accredited institution in Engineering, Science, or related discipline * Enthusiastic leader possessing the ability to motivate and empower a team of subject matter experts in varying technical disciplines * Have a track record of effectively leading aerospace programs, and have taken a hands-on approach in leading a high technology programs * Demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people and lead cross functional teams * Highly developed problem solving and decision making skills * Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills * Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex R&D environment * Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint * Self-directed with demonstrated passion for space and aerospace development * Understanding of aircraft design and engineering processes, Product Lifecycle Management, Configuration Management and Configuration Control * Knowledge and experience with AS9100 a plus * Embodies TSC Values (Pure Grit, Straight Up, Heartfelt Service, Elevating People and Practically Driven) regularly in their daily duties, communication and interaction with everyone they come in contact with.
