Under general direction, the Deputy Director of Information Technology Infrastructure & Operations will be responsible to plan, organize, and manage staff in technical, support, project, and administrative activities. This position will collaborate and work with other senior members of the department as well as staff across the county to focus on multiple areas of responsibility, including hosted systems; networking; purchasing; inventory; telecommunications; data center operations; deployment of desktop hardware; end user support; project management; and service desk. This position will participate in fiscal and administrative decision-making and will perform related work as required. This is a specialized technical position that reports directly to the Chief Information Officer and plays a key role in the senior leadership team of the department.
Develop county-wide systems and operations plan which support the management of all network infrastructures (Local and Wide Area Networks) and all servers (file servers, database services, application servers, email servers, print servers, domain controllers/administrative servers, capacity.
Infrastructure and capacity planning to include identification of opportunities for optimization in respective areas.
Service desk oversight including full functionality of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd tier incident management responsibility.
Develop an Information Technology Infrastructure strategic plan/program and determine and prioritize the most critical areas of the plan to address.
Provide interpretations of current policies related to specific situations as they arise
Develop and maintain an efficient and effective resource plan to support daily operations and project delivery
Develop business cases for infrastructure and operational initiatives
Plan, execute, and evaluate programs
Oversight and managerial responsibility for a diverse technology environment
Training and Experience (positions in this class require):
Bachelor's Degree in a closely related field
Nine years of progressively responsible experience related to the information technology infrastructure field, five years of management experience that includes managing a staff of personnel and the delivery of information technology related projects or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
Comprehensive knowledge of government and regulatory agencies policies/procedures from a infrastructure perspective
Knowledge of technology trends and developments in the areas of Network, Server and Security environments
Demonstrated expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, procedures, policy, security technologies, standards, and networking architectures
Must be a critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal and collaborative skills; and the ability to interact, communicate and relate security and risk-related concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Strong management and organizational skills
Understanding for the Project Management Process
The preferred candidate will have experience and demonstrated success in the following areas:
Master's Degree in a closely related field.
Ability to manage and mentor a highly technical staff, coordinates across program areas, and collaborates with system stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple projects and consulting project staff.
Experience supporting an organization which includes the delivery of technology to public safety organizations (Police, Fire, Sheriff, Corrections).
Experience overseeing large public and/or private organizations engaged in the design, deployment and sustainment of telecommunications and network infrastructure technologies.
Experience with network, infrastructure, testing, security, and communications of large-scale, multi-vendor IT and / or telecommunication projects.
Experience planning and implementing and running a major technical operations center.
Experience managing staff responsible for customer and support systems, system architecture, design deployment, and network infrastructure technology.
Demonstrated experience working with technical and non-technical staff.
Outstanding collaboration and team building skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent analytic, organization, presentation and facilitation skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
Ability to interface with executive level management and give senior level presentations.

Gwinnett County will contribute 7.0% of your pensionable earnings per pay period.
An employee is fully vested in 5 years. An employee can retire if he/she has reached the age of 55 and the sum of his/her age and years of service equals 65.

If you contribute at least 2.5% of your base pay to the 457(b) plan, Gwinnett County will contribute an additional 1% to your Defined Contribution Retirement Plan (this is in addition to the 7% described above).
