The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of the Financial Planning Office, the Deputy Director is responsible for the strategic oversight and reconciliation of financial activities across Columbia Business School's Centers and Programs. The Deputy Director serves as a resource to Centers and Programs for specialized knowledge of budget preparation, financial reporting, reconciliation as well as procurement. The candidate will stay informed and trained on compliance with Columbia University, and Columbia Business school policies and procedures.


Manages the preparation of the Centers and Programs operating budgets ensuring compliance with University policies and guidelines. Consolidates all Centers and Programs submissions.

Makes recommendations for updates based on the review of trends, including prior year performance, etc. Ensures the approved budget is reflected accurately and timely in the University's accounting systems. Manages the review and reconciliation of revenue, ensuring all accounting systems accurately reflect program or department activity, including receipts, billing, and deferments.

Reconciles internal, external records, and University accounts. Analyzes financials, including the variance from budget and investigation of variance details. Monitors income and expense activities to ensure compliance with budgets.

Ensures that revenue and expense activities meet budgetary guidelines. Responsible for identifying problems, making recommendations, and implementing solutions regarding budget issues. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and producing an accurate and complex suite of reports for Senior Leadership of the School.

Approves all P-card transactions for Centers and Programs ensuring compliance with Columbia University and Columbia Business School guidelines. Works with the Purchasing team to assist with Contracts, Purchase Orders, invoices, and all procurement related issues. Responsible for processing monthly and quarterly financial transactions for Centers and Programs.

Analyzes ARC projects, responds to inquiries, and makes any adjustments as necessary. Partners with Centers and Programs staff on the review and analysis of financial accounting transactions. Monitors and reports on financial activity to senior leadership.

Participates in the completion of special projects, such as Long-Term Planning, and 990 reporting. Prepares fiscal year-end transactions and schedules, to ensure Centers and Programs meet all deadlines set by the University. Conducts independent financial audits, when required. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree desirable. Minimum 4-6 years of experience required.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organizational, problem-solving and customer-service skills.

Detail oriented and able to prepare reports and recommendations based on through financial analysis. Ability to act proactively, and a demonstrated ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Strong knowledge/skills in EXCEL, accounting and reporting skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in CU Payroll and Accounting Systems (ARC, PAC).
