Overview

Reporting to the Director, the Deputy Director is responsible for advancing the mission of the Mayor's Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion and the Department of Supplier Diversity. The Deputy Director will have both internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from project management (Executive Order Promoting Equity in Public Procurement, Boston Resident Jobs Policy Ordinance) to constituent services. The Deputy Director will partner closely with the Director and the Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion's senior leadership team to set mission-focused implementation strategies for the Department of Supplier Diversity.

The Department of Supplier Diversity sits in the Economic Opportunity and Inclusion (EOI) Cabinet. It represents an integral part of the Mayor's mission to create a more economically equitable city. The Department of Supplier Diversity certifies businesses and manages programs that work to ensure small and diverse businesses have access and are better positioned to compete in City contracting.

Responsibilities

I. Staff and Strategy Management

  • Responsible for the development and execution of the Department of Supplier Diversity's implementation strategy.

  • Provides staff leadership and direction and direct support of unit-level performance goals.

  • Delegated authority to act on behalf of the Director in her absence.

II. Project Management

  • Oversees Department of Supplier Diversity priority projects and team-led implementation.

  • Provides guidance for the strategic direction of unit workflows.

  • Coordinates with OEOI staff as well as cross-departmental leadership for mission-critical project support when needed.

III. Partner Cultivation & Outreach

  • Collaborates with the Director to develop outreach, communication, and engagement strategies for high-impact external stakeholders.

  • Represents the Department of Supplier Diversity & OEOI to the public, key stakeholders and constituents.

  • Tracks and oversees time-sensitive projects and issues.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • Must have five (5) years of full time experience in diversity compliance monitoring, metric tracking, a Bachelor's degree may be substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.

  • Must have computer knowledge of Microsoft Software; knowledge of City utilized software and hardware preferred.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and willingness to travel to sites throughout the City of Boston on public transportation.

  • Knowledge of the construction trades and related legislation.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job, with a track record of delivering superior results and assuming leadership roles.
