Deputy County Counsel - Labor/Employment

The County of Alameda’s Office of the County Counsel (“OCC”) located in Oakland, California is hiring attorneys to join a diverse and collegial team committed to providing excellent legal services. The County Counsel is the General Counsel for the County of Alameda, including the Board of Supervisors and all County agencies, departments, certain special districts, boards, and commissions.

OCC covers a broad spectrum of practice areas and is currently seeking EXPERIENCED in-house or defense side labor/employment lawyers. Seeking lawyers with substantial experience advising clients regarding personnel and employment laws and policies, including reasonable accommodation, performance management, discipline and termination, unlawful workplace discrimination, harassment and retaliation, and traditional labor law. Experienced labor and employment litigators may be well-qualified, and public employment experience is a plus.

OCC is seeking talented, highly motivated, fast learners to fill our Deputy County Counsel positions. A minimum of five years as a licensed attorney is required. The best candidates will minimally meet the following qualifications: • Member in good standing with the State Bar of California • Ability to prioritize and manage several simultaneous projects under deadlines • Flexible and eager to learn notwithstanding an excellent track record of legal experience • Self-motivated and willing to take ownership of any matter • Team player • Exceptional legal research and writing skills • Strong communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to explain complex legal issues to various audiences • Able to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with co-workers and clients • Ability to practice at the highest level of ethics and professional responsibility COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: The current Deputy County Counsel salary range is $197,059.20-$272,708.80 annually. Benefits include medical and dental insurance plans for employees and dependents, life insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, holidays, defined benefit retirement plan and a deferred compensation plan.
