  • Prepares and delivers case files to judges.

  • Answers the telephone and greets visitors; researches and answers questions, provides information, and transfers calls to appropriate personnel.

  • Makes certified copies of divorce records and other case records.

  • Conducts criminal and civil court legal record history searches.

  • Processes notary public applications.

  • Performs standard clerical office functions including copying, filing, faxing, and receiving and sorting mail.

  • Reviews and inventories court case files prior to storage.

  • Reviews, verifies, accepts, and rejects applications for notary publics; swears into office all qualified notary publics upon successful acceptance of all required documentation.

  • Organizes and files civil and criminal Superior Court cases.

  • Trains and assists attorneys and others in the operation of specialized computerized court management and research systems.

  • Prepares and signs certification of the accuracy and completeness of court records to be used as legal evidence of official records.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of state laws and guidelines governing the Office of the Clerk of Superior Court.

  • Knowledge of legal terminology and required record-keeping procedures and deadlines.

  • Knowledge of modern office procedures.

  • Skill in the identification and basic interpretation of court paperwork and records.

  • Skill in records management and maintenance.

  • Skill in basic mathematics.

  • Skill in operating standard office equipment such as a typewriter, calculator, copier, microfiche machine, and facsimile machine.

  • Skill in operating a computer, standard business software applications, and specialized software applications used by the courts.

  • Skill in dealing with the public.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.

  • Ability to to answer questions and resolve problems.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or driving. The employee must occasionally lift light objects.  Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

  • Balancing - maintain equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching.

  • Crouching - bending body forward by bending leg, spine.

  • Feeling - perceiving attributes of objects by touch with skin, fingertips.

  • Grasping - applying pressure to object with fingers, palm.

  • Handling - picking, holding, or working with whole hand.

  • Hearing 1 - perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, receive information.

  • Kneeling - bending legs at knee to come to rest at knees.

  • Lifting - raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back.

  • Manual Dexterity - picking, pinching, typing, working with fingers rather than hand.

  • Mental Acuity - ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning.

  • Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.

  • Pushing - use upper extremities to press against objects with force, or thrust forward, downward, outward.

  • Reaching - extending hands or arms in any direction.

  • Repetitive Motion - substantial movements of wrists, hands, fingers.

  • Speaking - expressing ideas with spoken word, convey detailed, important instructions accurately, concisely.

  • Standing - for sustained periods of time.

  • Stooping - bending body downward, forward at waist, with full motion of lower extremities and back.

  • Talking 1- expressing ideas by spoken word

  • Visual Acuity 1 - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.

  • Visual Acuity 4 - operate motor vehicles/heavy equipment.

  • Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.
