PAY RANGE: $57,295 - $66,323 per year. Plus, uniform allowance, certification & shift pay.
SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the City Marshal Captain, this position promotes life and property safety through actively participating in law and code enforcement tasks and duties as conducive to the success of the City Marshals' office or as assigned by the City Marshal. This position will conduct criminal investigations, enforce adopted city codes, and perform various inspection activities within the City of Amarillo. Responsibilities also include establishing and maintaining good relations with the citizens of Amarillo, other City departments, civic groups, government agencies, private entities, and media representatives.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Enforce State laws, local ordinances.
Performs uniformed patrol functions including routine preventative patrol.
Performs annual inspections of business establishments.
Manages evidence throughout pending criminal cases.
Performs code investigations/inspections and enforcement.
Pursues and maintains positive relationships with citizens of Amarillo, other City departments, civic groups, government agencies, private entities, and media representatives.
Specializes training in several disciplines specific to investigations, inspections and code enforcement, Texas criminal law, Texas civil law, evidence handling, firearms.
Maintains all required certifications and licenses.
Serve warrants of arrests.
Provide support to other City offices.
Performs other duties assigned by the City Marshal.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of experience in Law Enforcement. Must be a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensed Peace Officer, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a specialized field of investigations. Other state certifications in code enforcement and inspections may be expected to be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire date depending on department needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Additional training in investigations, interview and interrogations, evidence handling and management.
TCOLE Intermediate Peace Officer certification or higher
TCOLE Instructor
Code enforcement experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must be a citizen in good standing with no felony or Class A convictions.
Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Knowledge of statutes, municipal codes and ordinances
Skills in patrol tactics, firearms, safety, and situational awareness.
Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
Ability to operate highly technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD.
Strong verbal and written communication skill.
Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee works in a dynamic environment that requires being sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. This position is considered weather essential personnel. Schedule consists of 10-hour shifts, four on/three off per week. Work times may vary with rotating on-call duties required.
