What your job will be like:
Responsible for working with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) on the overall development and execution of mission support functions to achieve the lab's performance goals, meet DOE customer expectations, and further Jefferson Lab's science and technology mission; advises the COO on and oversees the formulation, review, implementation and administration of organizational policies, standards and processes to ensure smooth and efficient laboratory operations with a day-to-day focus on operational excellence. With the COO, ensures that the implementation of JSA 's contract with the Department of Energy (DOE) meets performance expectations and contractual milestones in accordance with required terms and conditions and customer expectations.
In this role you will:
As directed by the COO, provides direction for the mission support organization (ESH, Business/Finance, HR, Performance Assurance, Facilities, Communications, Legal) to ensure safe, effective and efficient laboratory operations with a focus on operational excellence
Plan and execute tactical and strategic projects to i) achieve a high level of operational performance in support of the lab's mission, ii) enable the laboratory diversification and growth agenda, iii) enable a forward-looking vision for Jefferson Lab's workplace and workforce
Ensure the Laboratory meets and exceeds expectations of DOE through the Performance Evaluation and Measurement Plan goals, objectives and notable outcomes
Collaborate with members of the senior leadership team to further the lab's goals and scientific mission
Work collaboratively with the JSA Board and JSA leadership ensuring transparent and timely communication
Build and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with the Site Office and DOE Headquarters
Work collaboratively across the Lab, throughout the federal and local governments, and with other key stakeholders and organizations to advance Jefferson Lab's mission and objectives. Explore and engage in opportunities to further regional priorities and foster economic development
Analyze and advise the corporate leadership on the effect of potential changes to the contract, ensuring that interactions with the appropriate responsible parties are accomplished in a timely manner; and, follows through with organizational changes (processes, systems, personnel) necessitated by mutually accepted contract modifications
Contribute to the Lab's strategic planning initiatives, including the Annual Lab Plan and the Lab Agenda
Champion a forward-leaning approach to safety at Jefferson Lab with an emphasis on Human Performance and High Reliability Organization approaches
Attract, develop, motivate, and retain talented and diverse staff members. Promote succession planning, leadership development, staff training, and career progression for Laboratory staff members
Maintain a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of institutional values, guiding principles and ethics
May assume responsibilities of the Chief Operating Officer in the COO's absence
