Typically spends majority of time performing lead activities in the New Development Cell (NDC). This includes multiple functions including assembly, tube bend and Weld. Remaining time is typically spent working on various processes and equipment within NDC.
Works on complex assignments involving new development products. Actively contributes to lean initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs. Routinely works independently with minimum guidance in a team environment. Understands manufacturing process flow from beginning to end and is able to utilize this knowledge to help develop processes for new product.
Primary Lead Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
1.Assigns daily tasks, shares team performance and customer expectations, and provides technical and or process direction to a group of team members. Assists team leaders in meeting team production results as well as team and division objectives. Supports an environment of efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
2.Typically performs hands-on, functional responsibilities for at about 20% of the shift. Fills the role of "backup" to assist with priority jobs.
3.Assists in facilitating team problem solving and team meetings, as required.
4.Ensures that safety, policies, and procedures are followed (i.e. breaks, lunches, overtime, safety glasses, etc.)
5.Coordinates with planners, business teams (PMs), manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and engineering to smoothly and systematically introduce new product from a conception build to a production ready stage.
6.Teams with planners, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and engineering to implement changes to reduce errors, improve throughput, and ensure customer due dates are met.
7.Helps to ensure team achieves results, meets goals, and follows up promptly on action items and requests, which may include material availability. Tracks the productivity of the team.
8.Reviews discrepancies, takes corrective action, recommends alternative methods, and provides constructive feedback to the team. Follows up to ensure corrective action has been implemented.
9.Provides feedback to Program Managers, Engineers and Manufacturing engineers regarding manufacturability of new product. Makes recommendations on how to improve producibility of new product and improve efficiency of cell employees
10.Ensures the team follows procedures and instructions to promote and ensure quality products.
11.Facilitates the distribution of resources/people to ensure that all work centers within the area are appropriately covered. Assists in determining the need for overtime.
12.Facilitates internal and external audits of the area.
13.May be required to fill-in for other group leaders as necessary.
14.May attend various meetings on behalf of the team leader.
15.Assists in determining the skill level of each individual on the team and provides/coordinates development/training to increase team members' job knowledge and abilities.
16.Provides input on reviews, development plans, and goal setting.
17.Assists team leader with follow up to ensure that development goals are achieved.
18.Assists team leader in counseling team members as appropriate/required.
19.Other duties as required to assist the team leader.
Job Function Responsibilities
1.Responsible for ensuring new development products are processed through all functions within the NDC with safety, quality and schedule goals in mind.
2.Runs multiple assembly and semi-automated related processes and machines. Improvises tooling to accomplish results where operations require expert knowledge of machining technology, operating skills, and shop techniques together with diversified experience. Experience working with the introduction of new development products.
2.Performs complex operations and troubleshoots / resolves complex problems.
3.Interprets customer requirements from blueprints, complex drawings, engineering specifications, quality directives, charts, tables, sketches, and verbal instructions.
4.Independently analyzes, determines, and recommends changes prior to manufacturing. Interfaces with engineering, manufacturing engineering and program managers to resolve drawing errors, suggest design changes, and solve product/process problems.
5.Able to produce a final product with little or no direction.
6.Advises and assists with tooling design and improved manufacturing methods and techniques.
7.Inspects finished products for conformance to dimensional specifications utilizing precision measuring instruments such as gages, calipers, micrometers, comparators, and complex surface plate techniques. Ensures equipment is calibrated in accordance with schedule.
8.Routinely maintains equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability specific to division requirements.
9.Able to perform all statistical process control (SPC) specific to division requirements.
10.Uses advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry, and general knowledge of metal characteristics and other processing requirements.
11.Performs first part inspections when available, after each machine set up.
12.Actively contributes to lean/continuous initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Effectively applies lean concepts and tools in work areas.
13.Provides guidance or assistance in coordinating workload priorities to make appropriate accommodations based on business demand.
14.Shows flexibility, creativity and initiative when working on new Development Products. Interact with new development team as necessary.
15.Maintains a satisfactory high level of performance while following appropriate procedures and observing all pertinent safety rules and requirements.
16.Maintains appropriate knowledge and ability levels to efficiently perform all assigned work and utilizes this knowledge base to become proficient on new/unfamiliar assignments.
17.Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
18.Maintains effective communication of quality issues between shifts with ME, supervisor, and business teams (as needed).
19.Investigates problems, identifies solutions and institutes corrective actions within area of responsibility or immediately involves correct support personnel to assist.
20.Consistently follows up on issues in a timely manner.
21.Demonstrates use of lean problem solving tools.
22.Documents Gemba walks with supervisor; takes actions needing attention and adheres to expected completion dates.
23.Participates in train-the-trainer sessions.
24.Carries out personal training plan with Supervisor and for the cell.
25.Performs scheduled training and certifications as needed.
26.Actively participates in de-certifications with Supervisor and ME's.
27.Assists in safety incident investigations including DuPoint Stop audits.

Qualifications (relevant experience, education and training):
1.Requires High School Diploma or equivalent and eight or more years related manufacturing experience. Ideally this includes at least 2 years of assembly related experience and at least 4 years of experience working on semi-automated, programmable equipment in a high technology manufacturing environment. Able to work independently with minimum supervisory guidance in a team environment.

9.Proficiently makes and evaluates complex machine set-ups.
10.Has working knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry.
11.Possesses comprehensive knowledge of gages, precision measuring instruments, and all necessary inspection equipment.
12.Displays ability to lead and/or implement lean/continuous improvement initiatives.
13.Demonstrates effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment on research and solution development.
14.Possesses effective mentoring and training skills, and serves as a resource to other team members.
15.Interprets reports and uses job specific software applications. Able to use employee self-service systems to access on-line information and use specialized automated systems (i.e. PMR, TORS, e-mail).
16.Effectively demonstrates team member competencies and participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
Typical Mental and Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to constantly move about inside the plant to access materials and machinery. The employee is occasionally required to reposition him/herself to operate equipment or move about parts and materials.
The employee occasionally lifts materials weighing more than 40 lbs. and moves or transports materials and parts weighing 26-40 lbs. around the plant. The employee constantly operates plant machinery to perform essential functions of the job. Employees in this job are frequently exposed to hazardous equipment or machinery; dust, gas and fumes; loud noises, and extreme heat.
