The Child Welfare Services Specialist functions as the recognized resource to assigned designated counties with in the Business Service Center 3 geographic area that include Cass/St. Joseph, Ionia/Montcalm, Mecosta/Osceola, Van Buren.

  This position will provide staff support and oversight of local Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) offices in Child Welfare operations to ensure that MDHHS programs are consistently managed. This position also provides back up coverage to the Child Welfare Analyst within the designated Business Service Center as deemed necessary by the bureau director.

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Experience

Three years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced (P11) level in state service.

Prefer Local office experience in child welfare services.  Prefer four years experience in a combination of service worker/supervisor, training consultant or children's services program specialist.

Selective Position Requirement:  Two years of experience gained in the last five years developing, implementing, or applying Children's Protective Services or Foster Care program policies.

Position Location/Remote Office:  The physical location of this position is at the Berrien County MDHHS Office, 401 Eighth St., Benton Harbor MI, 49022.  Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

Employees will be provided computers to perform state work.  Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:        

        o A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.

        o A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

        o Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
