Overview
The trainer is responsible for ensuring that new employees receive onboarding training to prepare them for their role, and includes refresher training for existing employees. The trainer will be doing training required for the assembly roles. The department trainer must be observant and have excellent analytical skills. A good trainer is able to use alternative teaching methods to cater to various individuals. As part of this role the trainer position includes performing accurate assembly or subaasembly of electro-mechanical components for builds into higher level assemblies; the trainer builds higher level assemblies according to written instructions, drawings and visual aids that comply with IPC standards and By Light workmanship requirements; and performs the installation and integration of multi-level assemblies through final completion of By Light's product offerings. The trainer adheres to, builds, and teaches assemblers how to build using By Light's workmanship standards, identified processes and released drawings.
Responsibilities
Evaluate employee performance to gauge where skills are lacking
Create training programs to address skill gaps in employees
Prepare learning materials for programs
Develop onboarding programs specific for assembly for new employees
Conduct surveys to gauge the effectiveness of training programs
Research new teaching methods
Attend IPC, Lean classes
Apply mechanical knowledge to perform routine and/or complex tasks
Operate power and hand tools used in an Electro/Mechanical environment
Accurately complete sub and higher-level assembly builds working from moderate to complex drawings and work instructions
Display a moderate level of computer proficiency with a high level of computer hardware knowledge
Troubleshooting electro and mechanical failure modes. Work with internal customers and suppliers to identify root cause analysis and corrective action
Use test equipment to validate product quality and reliability
Commitment to continuous improvement culture and Lean metric reporting. Actively participate in continuous improvement events driving improvement opportunities in products and processes.
Frequently solder and crimp various sizes of wire; assembly of wire circuits, cables and electronic components.
Effectively completing assembly builds on moderate to complex 1st article assemblies building to By Light's quality, IPC workmanship standards, and best practices.
Complete and pass IPC certifications for the latest revision of J and 620 standards.
Assist in "on the job" training efforts to assemblers

Required Experience/Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Prior experience as a trainer or a similar position
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to identify gaps in skills
Knowledge of various teaching methods and approaches
Excellent organizational skills
3+ years' experience in soldering, cabling and crimping with proven proficiency in electro-mechanical assembly/rework experience in a manufacturing environment.
Able to read, comprehend and work from written work instructions and drawings technical in nature.
Able to perform a variety of operations to assemble/rework/modify electronic and electromechanical products to include performing circuit card assembly and repair; using hand tools such as crimpers, cutters, soldering irons, and ESD monitoring system
Must have soldering experience using IPC J standard, and building assemblies using IPC 620 standards and hold previous or current IPC certifications
Must re-certify when applicable
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is regularly required to sit and occasionally climb or balance; use hands to touch, use hands and arms to reach forward and overhead. The employee must frequently lift up to 35 pounds unassisted, and occasionally assist moving up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include color, close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be required to work with hazardous materials.
The work environment is frequently performed in a climate-controlled environment and occasionally in a non-climate-controlled setting. The employee may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is considered low to moderate in the manufacturing area.
