This position answers incoming e-mails and transferred calls from a toll free telephone number regarding all aspects of the Medical Assistance Program. Primary concerns of inquiries deal with policy, procedure, coverage, billing, and managed care.

The job responsibilities include researching verbal and written inquiries received from medical providers, qualified health plans, community agencies, the general public, and professional and administrative staff. On a daily basis the employee must update his/her program knowledge by reviewing memos, bulletins, letters, email messages, etc.. This new information must be incorporated into his/her daily use by understanding how it impacts the customer. This position identifies researches, and reports problems or discrepancies with the computerized claims processing system, published program policy, and internal procedures.

Education

Possession of a high school diploma or a GED Certificate.

Experience

Departmental Technician 7

One year of experience performing experienced-level administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.

Departmental Technician 8

One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.

OR

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.

Departmental Technician E9

Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.

OR

One year of experience performing advanced secretarial or supervisory administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

Departmental Technician 7

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician 8

Possession of a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician E9

Possession of a Bachelor's degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

The physical location of this position is 400 S. Pine St., Lansing, MI. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

Employees will be provided computers to perform state work.  Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.

  • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
