Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure customer satisfaction by greeting and answering their questions

  • Tour your department to ensure it meets our customers' expectations

  • Work hand-in-hand with sales associates to get the job done

  • Prepare and plan for upcoming events that will impact your department

  • Ability to communicate, take direction at all levels, and turn it into action

  • Use basic math skills to maintain accurate inventory levels


Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience or experience in a retail environment preferred

VIEW JOBS 7/13/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-10-11T00:00 Overview Responsible for all aspects for the successful operation of the Red Wing Thrift Store, including the proper receiving and processing of donated materials, properly pricing and displaying of merchandise, assisting customers, and cashiering as directed and scheduled. Supervision of staff and dealing with customer issues in the absence of the store supervisor. This is a full-time regular position with a work week expectation of 40 hours per week with full benefits. Responsibilities Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates. Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every donor, contact and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind. * Supervisory – in the absence of the Store Supervisor assume duties of supervising and directing store staff and handling customer issues• Be responsible for daily reports and deposits in the absence or at the direction of the Store Supervisor• Customer Service – Greet and assist all customers in a polite and professional manner• Receiving- Assist donors with unloading donations. Evaluate potential donations for acceptability according to the established guidelines. Reject unacceptable donations informing donor of reason item(s) cannot be accepted in a positive and proper manner• Sorting – Sort donated goods according to salable or not salable and put into proper area to be priced, discarded or sent to Rochester• Pricing – Price merchandise and clothing according to pricing guidelines• Distribution – Hang clothing and place merchandise items on the proper racks or shelving on the sales floor• Sales Floor – Keep sales floor presentable by re-hanging and straightening merchandises as needed• Regularly check fitting rooms and place items back on proper rack or return to processing room as needed• Cashiering – Properly operate the cash register and credit card/check machine accurately entering sales into the proper department, registering the type of payment, and giving the correct amount of change. Properly bag or wrap purchases for the customer• Telephone – Answer the telephone as needed and accurately answer inquiries or properly record pick-up information• Culling – Sort through clothing racks and shelves to pull items which have not sold with-in the designated time. Properly dispose of items• Safety – Report any needed repairs or unsafe conditions to the store supervisor• Opening – Perform duties to prepare the store to be opened, including placing start funds into the cash register, turning on lights, checking supplies, and unlocking doors• Closing – Perform duties related to closing the store, including verifying all customers have left, locking the doors, running closing procedures for the register, counting cash register funds and comparing to the "z' tape and placing funds in the safe. Shut off lights• Reports – Prepare daily deposits and reports. Take deposit to the bank as directed• Cleaning – Assist in vacuuming, sweeping, and other cleaning duties as needed• Other duties as assigned Qualifications High School Diploma with previous retail supervisory experience or management training preferred with a minimum of six months of employment at a Salvation Army store. Must be able to work with a wide variety of personalities and have good interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, the ability independently and/or in a team setting, computer literate with working knowledge of email, Microsoft Word and Excel. Possess a positive attitude, works well with others, be trustworthy, especially in confidential matters and be well organized and efficient. Must be available and willing to work some Saturdays as scheduled. Must be able to pass The Salvation Army background checks and meet the MVR drivers' qualification.
