Purpose: To complete a variety of specialized duties that support functional operations. The duties in the department specialist job family focus on tasks and/or work that are unique to the department and require knowledge and skills that are beyond what are required for general office work

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains complex records

  • Responds to inquiries in area of responsibility

  • Collects data/information for department use in special projects or reports

  • Updates information and reports typically on the computer

  • Checks information for accuracy

  • Prepares and balances data

  • Answers department phones as needed and routes to appropriate area

  • Reviews information/data and makes decisions within well-defined guidelines, parameters, and instruction

  • Examines and prioritizes documents to determine work to be completed or best course of action

  • Collects information for specific department reports

  • Creates and maintains complex reports

  • Sorts, files and maintains invoices, receipts, contracts, or other special department documents

  • Compiles minor statistical data

  • Makes and checks routine one and two step math calculations

  • Completes keyboarding projects such as preparing correspondence and mailings

  • Checks own work for accuracy

  • Coordinates special programs and/or events

  • Reviews and/or compares information/data and makes determination within defined guidelines, parameters, and instruction

  • Maintains complex records and files, searches and investigates information found in files

  • Compiles information and data from various sources for specific departmental reports, and creates reports, graphs and data comparisons

  • Posts records and processes departmental documents requiring specific knowledge of functional area

  • Completes detailed keyboarding projects such as preparing correspondence from rough drafts and completing specialized departmental forms

  • Responds to inquiries that require specialized knowledge of the function to respond

Job Requirements:

  • Reading, writing, math and communication skills at a proficient level

  • Ability to follow verbal or written instruction

  • Keyboarding proficiency

  • Math skills at a proficient level

  • Computer skills: word processing and/or spreadsheet

  • Intermediate keyboarding proficiency

  • Intermediate computer skills: word processing and/or spreadsheet

  • Math skills at a specific level (i.e. one step: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or two step percent calculations or more advanced)

Job Responsibilities: * Works to achieving sales and gross profit commitments as top priority * Selects product categories * Supervises Category Merchandisers and category support staff to properly coordinate category management activities that will significantly impact the region's performance and sales. * Attains assigned goals despite program complexity, handle multiple priorities, develop competitive programs and maneuver through large amounts of data smoothly. * Acts as representative for the region when needed Additional responsibilities include: * Provides direction, sets and monitors goals for Category Merchandiser Team * Oversight to the Speed to Shelf process * Oversight to Plan-O-Gram process * Resolves Vendor/Customer/Retailer Issues * Acts as a Tactical, Regional Category Strategy and Program Development lead for assigned area * Builds and Maintains Strategic Customer Relationships * Partners on Strategic Marketing Program and Plan Development * Conducts Financial Planning on Proforma with Business Analysis * Reviews sell plans and making adjustments as needed * Reviews and budgets for Profit and Loss (P&L) Statement * Conducts Staff Training, Development and Supervision * Builds and Maintains Relationships with Top 25 Key Retailers Job Requirements: Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Bachelor's degree preferred * Five (5) years Category Management experience, with proven performance using Category Management tools (e.g., Spectre Data, Syndicated Data Sources and UNFI Category Management applications) * Proven supervision experience, including familiarity with Performance Management processes * Proven understanding of financial reports, including prior experience with profit and loss (P&L) statement responsibility * Strong oral and written communication skills * Strong presentation skills * Possess good leadership skills and the ability to supervise the work of others. Must be able to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desires results. * Possess good communication skills, both verbal and written.
