Position Summary:

The Department Secretary provides a broad range of word processing and clerical duties within established procedures and under minimal supervision in the Inservice Education department at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center. Exercised initiative and competency in such responsibilities as receiving phone calls and visitors, maintaining files and record systems, preparation of regular memos, reports, recording and transcribing meeting minutes, and routine correspondence. Performs editing and proofreading functions from rough copies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 1 years of in clerical/secretarial experience.

  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to type 45-55 WPM.

  • 2 years college or demonstrated courses in secretarial/business is preferred.

VIEW JOBS 12/12/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-12T00:00 Purpose Statement / Position Summary Under direct supervision of the nurse, works cooperatively with all members of the health care team performing patient care for the Emergency Department, Urgent Care and Minor Care adult and pediatric patient, stocking supplies and performing clerical activities to assist the nurse and physician in meeting the patient care needs. Adheres to policies and procedures and facilitates a safe and clean working environment for the Emergency Department, Urgent Care and Minor Care. Job Description * Provides direct patient care and supports the health care team members in a safe, cost-effective manner. * Performs patient care activities as identified on EDT competency checklist while maintaining safety, comfort and privacy. * Stocks and maintains supplies throughout the department * Provides secretarial support. * Consistently applies infection control policies/procedures. * Provides services to Miller Children's Hospital patients consistent with contract agreement. * Obtains/draws required blood specimens. a. Documents collection of specimens. * Documents findings in patient's medical record in compliance with unit specific standards and systems. * Demonstrates patient care using age specific interventions for the infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient population. * Competency Requirements: Successful completion and maintenance of area/unit EDT competency skills checklist (see attached) including special care and management of equipment, that reflects age/developmental, physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs of the Emergency Department, Urgent Care and Minor Care adult and pediatric patient populations. E. Additional responsibilities: 1. Attends department specific staff meetings, inservices, education and training. 2. Participates in department specific Performance Improvement Projects. 3. Demonstrates clinical practice consistent with Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller Children's Hospital Standards of Nursing Practice and Clinical Policies and Procedures. 4. Provides supervision of non-licensed health care personnel as assigned. 5. Participates in committee activities as assigned. 6. Participates in orientation and development of students and/or new staff as assigned. Minimum Requirements / Work Experience Six months experience in an emergency department setting or 12 months as an ambulance attendant. Units/Departments may determine experience based on unit-based standards. Education / Licensure / Certification High school graduate or equivalent. BLS certification required.
