Position Summary & Description

The Department of Psychology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applicants for part-time temporary faculty to cover PSYC 981 and EDSP 705, 748, and 858 for the Summer 2024 semester.

IUP Psychology department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Master of Education in Educational Psychology, EdS in School Psychology, PhD in School Psychology, and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology.

Duties:

  • Demonstrate content knowledge in psychology.

  • Plan course syllabus and course outline, as described by department.

  • Hold classes and instruct students during the designated days/times and room locations.

  • Plan appropriate assignments, assessments, quizzes/exams, including midterm and final assessments.

  • Grade all assignments and provide appropriate feedback.

  • Implement all necessary teaching and evaluation processes designated within the department and requested by the Chair.

  • Communicate effectively and perform their duties in an inclusive manner.

  • Collaborate with department faculty when necessary.

  • Hold office hours as delineated by departmental requirements and university expectations.

  • The successful candidate(s)may be asked to work at off-campus sites and/or provide instruction through distance education.

Position Qualifications

Required:

  • EDSP 705: PhD, PsyD, or DEd in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Counseling Psychology.
  • EDSP 748: PhD, PsyD, or DEd in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Counseling Psychology.
  • EDSP 858: PhD, PsyD, or DEd in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Counseling Psychology.
  • PSYC 981: PhD, PsyD, or DEd in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Counseling Psychology

Demonstrated expertise or professional experience in the course subject area:

  • EDSP 705 Expertise in multicultural awareness and the role of minority status on educational assessments and performance.
  • EDSP 748 Expertise in behavioral problems in the classroom and effective interventions.
  • EDSP 858 Expertise in assessment of behavioral problems in a variety of settings.
  • PSYC 981 Family Therapy: Expertise in theoretical models of family therapy and clinical skills used for working with families.
  • PSYC 981 Couples Therapy: Expertise in theoretical models of couples therapy and clinical skills used for working with couples.

All Classes: Effective communication is essential, as is proficiency in content delivery through face-to-face delivery.

Essential Functions

Academic faculty must have, and maintain the physical and mental abilities, communicative skills, and stamina necessary to carry out the essential functions of their positions in teaching, research, scholarship, and service. Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve standing to a significant degree, walking for brief periods of time and may include driving requirements.

Faculty must be able to:

  • Teach courses assigned by the departmental chair on a schedule made of a combination of standard class-meeting times as determined to meet instructional needs and adhere to the requirements of the department's curriculum.

  • Teach courses for a mandated number of contact hours per week over a full semester and meet university expectations for final exams.

  • Present course material in a clear and organized manner using methodologies appropriate to the discipline.

  • Evaluate student work fairly and promptly.

  • Perform the physical requirements of laboratory, field work, studio work, or other activities outside typical classroom instruction if applicable.

  • Maintain current knowledge of the discipline through continued scholarly activity and research.

  • Participate actively in assignments necessary to advance the service and/or outreach of the department, college, and university.
