The Department of Management Coordinator is a position that provides administrative support to the Department Chair, Vice Chair, Personnel Committee, Selection Committee, and other departmental committees for the Department of Management in the College of Business and Economics. Provides administrative support to specified Centers of Excellence attached to the department.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing administrative coordination work, including department-related budgetary activities, and maintenance and oversight of current department office operations. Assists the Department Chair with overseeing the work of the graduate assistants and the student assistants who provide administrative assistance to faculty. Evaluates current operations, procedures, and projects, and if appropriate, recommends operational and procedural activity and policy modifications to the Department Chair.

Assists with administrative staff hiring decisions. In collaboration with the Department Chair and the ASC II, assist in course schedule development and updating, including preparing drafts and tracking changes. Assists the ASC II in preparing part-time faculty contracts.

Coordinates purchases of office equipment, supplies and furniture as needed. Professional interaction within the College, the university and the community are required. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

High School diploma or the equivalent and four years of progressively responsible experience in general office, clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent. Thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.

Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Thorough knowledge of office systems with the ability to use a range of technology, systems, and software packages. Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects.

Ability to apply a variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Ability to perform standard business math including calculating ratios and percentages, tracking financial data, and making simple projections.

Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports. Ability to effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Expertise in using office software packages, technology, and systems.

May function as the office information technology specialist. Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist. Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to work area.

Ability to understand problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions in other areas. Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions. Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference. Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills.
