A Non-Merit vacancy exists in the Baltimore County Department of Aging (BCDA) Volunteer Center.
Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

Job Purpose
The Volunteer Center Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the operations and initiatives of a county-wide Volunteer Center. This position involves developing partnerships with nonprofit and government agencies, recruiting and matching volunteers with volunteer activities, maintaining volunteer databases, and providing administrative support to ensure the smooth functioning of the Volunteer Center's activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding:
Assist in recruiting volunteers through various channels, including online platforms, community events, and outreach efforts.
Follow-up to volunteer inquiries with suggested volunteer opportunities and connections.
Support the onboarding process by conducting background checks as necessary, for Baltimore County Department of Aging volunteers.
Program Coordination and Support:
Identify and develop partnerships with nonprofit and government agencies in the greater Baltimore region.
Help coordinate volunteer center sponsored networking and training opportunities for agency partners.
Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing various large scale service projects throughout the year (i.e.
Communicate regularly with volunteers to assess their interests, availability, and preferences for volunteer opportunities.
Volunteer Engagement and Recognition:
Assist in planning the Baltimore County Department of Aging's annual volunteer appreciation event as well as any potential countywide volunteer recognition efforts.
Compose and compile articles for an electronic volunteer newsletter. The communication will highlight agencies and upcoming opportunities; spotlight volunteers; and provide other general updates.
Solicit feedback from volunteers to identify areas for improvement and enhance the volunteer experience.
Administrative Support:
Manage the volunteer center's Get Connected portal, including: verifying agency nonprofit status, approving/disapproving of agency partners, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date agency profiles.
Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials as needed to support the Volunteer Center's activities and initiatives.
Assist with general administrative tasks, such as answering phones, responding to inquiries, scheduling meetings, and managing correspondence.
Communication and Outreach:
Assist in developing and implementing communication strategies to promote volunteer opportunities, events, and achievements through various channels, including social media, newsletters, and press releases.
Develop community partnerships to promote the volunteer center. This includes working with community associations, faith-based organizations, libraries, schools, T.V. networks, newspapers, etc.

Qualifications
Required Education and Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate degree or equivalent in social or behavioral science or related field;
Plus
At least one or two years' experience in volunteer management, program coordination or related fields.
Preferred Education
Bachelor's Degree in social or behavioral science or related field
Experience as described in the examples of duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required education.

The work of this classification entails frequent walking, standing, and other limited physical activity including travel between work sites.
