  • The Communication Department seeks a Department Head who is an innovative, effective leader with a vision for the department.

    The Department Head reports to the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and is responsible for the administration of the department.

    The responsibilities of the Head include: recruiting, appointing, and supervising faculty and staff; managing departmental budgets and enrollment; providing leadership to facilitate, support, and promote research, service, outreach, and graduate and undergraduate education in the department: taking the lead in aligning the departmental mission and vision with the NC State strategic plan; and promoting the department through leadership in college, university, and external initiatives. This is a supervisory position. Supervisory positions conduct interviews, make final hiring decisions, provide salary recommendations, monitor and assign work, counsel and discipline employees under direct supervision, develop work plans and conduct performance appraisals for permanent employees. Candidates must possess a doctorate in Communication or an equivalent degree and must have an active record of research, teaching, publication and other professional activities.

VIEW JOBS 9/13/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-12-12T00:00 The Research Communications Specialist will lead the branding, marketing, and communications efforts for the website Research for Me at UNC, an initiative of the Recruitment and Retention Program within the NC TraCS Institute aimed at encouraging participation in research studies. This position will manage content development, visual architecture, and social media channels for the site and its associated initiatives and services, collaborating closely with communications colleagues in the University and the UNC Health Care System. This individual will also serve as the point of contact for users of the site and will provide oversight of study listings and requested promotional services. Additionally, this person will provide expertise, resources, and services to individual study teams in the following areas to help them meet recruitment goals more efficiently: study branding, behavioral economics, recruitment budgeting, marketing planning, graphic design, communications approaches in both verbal and written recruitment materials, and other areas as appropriate. The individual in this position will be responsible for development of promotional material for the Recruitment and Retention Program itself as well as to broaden community awareness and education about research participation and the importance of research. This position requires developing and tracking metrics and measures for the evaluation of all media, marketing, and communications campaign efforts. This position may also require planning of multi-stakeholder outreach events such as community events, meetings, conferences, and networking opportunities. This person will report directly to the Research Recruitment and Retention Program Manager and will work closely with other programs and offices across the enterprise. Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
