Department Coordinator Social Work
JOB SUMMARY
The Department Coordinator for the School of Social Work collaborates with department staff and community members to ensure smooth and effective program and business operations through scheduling, operational procedure oversight, program coordination, admissions support and outreach. A professional demeanor, flexible nature, appreciation for a fast-paced environment, and a strong commitment to equity and social justice are necessary to ensure efficient and smooth day-to-day unit operations. This position is supervised by the Chair od SSW but functions as a key collaborative member of the unit.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Responsibilities:
Serve as department coordinator for all programs
Plan, direct, and monitor SSW Program office workflow
Record minutes for all department related meetings
Maintain and organize student files
Maintain inventory and supplies for faculty and classroom instruction
Complete other support responsibilities and activities as requested
Specific Duties/Essential Position Functions:
Admissions- Manage application process throughout the academic calendar year, including Slate software. The SSW DC will develop a thorough understanding of the Slate admissions system and work with both graduate admissions staff and SSW graduate program directors in funnel management and admissions processes for the MSW and DSW programs.
SSW students- Work with Program Directors on registration issues, application for graduation
Coordinate textbook orders. Consult with Program Directors
Coordinate course scheduling. Consult with Chair and Program Directors
ContractsWork with the Chair to create and manage adjunct faculty and faculty overload contracts. Consult with Chair and Program Directors as needed.
Coordinate graduation ceremony, including awards, and program. Coordinate with Chair and Program Directors.
Events Coordinator-Support new student orientation and information sessions throughout the academic calendar year, participate in social, educational and community events.
Faculty-Support as requested and approved by the Chair
Financial Reporting-Manage expenditures, invoices, department budget with Chair, Program Directors and Finance Office
GA's or work-study students
Manage as needed, application windows, events, etc.
Qualifications
SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications Education, Experience and Essential Skills
Education: Two years of college or equivalent post high school office/business courses preferred.
General Qualifications:
Demonstrates ability to function as an effective team leader, to establish goals, develop plans, make decisions and follow through with directions to meet established outcomes.
Must have excellent written and interpersonal communications skills. Reading, writing and conversing clearly in English is required.
Must have a basic understanding of budget development/monitoring.
Cooperates to solve problems, seek solutions, and promote a positive environment.
Maintains direct confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal skills: maintain courteous and professional behavior in interacting with faculty, staff, students, university personnel, and public.
INTERRELATIONS
Regular or daily contact with Chair, Program Directors, faculty, staff, students, university staff.
Regular contact with the general public.
Must have an appreciation and respect for diverse populations.
