Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday 40 hours per week

Hiring Range: $115,000 - $160,000/year

The Public Health Dentist performs dental exams, oral diagnosis, treatment planning, restorative or palliative treatment in both fixed clinics and community settings. Provides oral health education and value based care approaches to improve overall individual and population health.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs dental exams, oral diagnosis, treatment planning, restorative or palliative treatment in both fixed clinics and community settings

  • Provides oral health education and value based care approaches to improve overall individual and population health

  • Participates in program meetings, trainings, etc

  • Participates in on-going quality assurance and quality improvement processes


  • DMD or DDS degree from a university or college accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association required

  • Five years experience preferred


  • Active license to practice dentistry in North Carolina required

  • Active Controlled Substance Certificate (DEA) license required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have thorough knowledge in the practice of clinical dentistry for adults and children as well as basic principles of public health dental practice.

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective communication with clients, co-workers and the general public

  • Ability to organize prioritize workload and meet deadlines, establish and maintain effective interpersonal work relationships utilizing emotional intelligence skills

  • Demonstrate positive example of leadership, be detail oriented, must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Be able to work as an effective team member, exercise sound judgement, utilize critical thinking and decision making skills

  • Flexibility to shift priorities
