The incumbent in this position is to provide dental services to clients and works with the local dental society and the College of Central Florida Dental Assisting Program. This position is supervised by the Medical Director. Professional and technical dental supervision is maintained by State Dental Director.
This position requires that you have a clear and active Florida license to practice dentistry or a clear and active dental license in another state and are eligible to apply for a limited license to work in health access settings only. Must have a clear and active DEA certificate and have or qualify for a Florida Medicaid License.
Preference will be given to individuals who are bilingual.
Follows Medicaid rules for the practice of dentistry as explained by the Health Department personnel. Reviews the medical history of every patient and obtain medical consultations as necessary to assure safe, quality care. Diagnoses dental needs using appropriate X-Rays, clinical and/or tele-dentistry exams and record findings. Performs head and neck exams and records findings. Treats patients who are eligible as per the Florida Department of Health guidelines.
Performs preventive procedures such as silver diamine application, restorative procedures (composites, amalgams, pulpotomies, stainless steel crowns, space maintainers) and extractions on children and adults as set in the dental clinic guidelines. Treats the number of patients assigned in an efficient and caring manner. Charts findings, clinical exams, treatment plan and complete progress notes per dental clinic policy in Eaglesoft oral health record. Reviews and signs the encounter form and correlate to the dental progress notes upon completion of client.
Prescribes medications as necessary under the guidelines of the Florida Board of Dentistry, DEA, Department of Health and the dental clinic.
Dispenses medications needed in the course of dental treatment. Proper documentation must be provided for the use of such medication. Refers patients who are beyond their scope of practice or capabilities of the dental clinic or its staff. Informs the patient/guardian and the dental program manager of any untoward experience and document in the patient's chart as per Health Department guidelines. Arranges appropriate follow up care as needed for the incident. Completes incident report as necessary. Follows OSHA guidelines and the infection control and hazardous material policies of the Florida Department of Health and the dental clinic. Works with Marion County Health Department employees and CF dental assisting students.
Conforms to the guidelines of the dental clinic allowing the students to assist as their training progresses. Reviews intraoral photos and completes teledentistry exams as necessary for the school-based program and head start. May provide exams in head start schools and/or health fairs.
MANAGEMENT OF THE DENTAL CLINIC:
Works with the other employees, CF faculty and students. If there is an issue that develops, will alert the Dental Program Manager so that it can be addressed. Will actively participate in meetings with leadership. Actively participates in meetings with the staff.
Works with the dental program manager in managing the clinic. Works with the dental program manager in administrative functions, such as quality assurance audits, evaluations and community meetings. Inspects and approves all lab work before sending to the lab and upon return from the lab. Provides after-hours emergency numbers to be reached in case of emergency.

Works with the Dental Program Manager to participate with community partners through meetings, phone calls, emails and presentations as needed.
Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
Must maintain an active and clear Florida Dental license.
Must maintain an active and clear DEA license.
Must qualify and maintain an active Medicaid number and be credentialed as a provider of the Florida Department of Health in Marion County with the Medicaid dental insurance providers.
Must follow the Medicaid rules for provision of care.
Must not have any malpractice claims pending.
Must be able to lift 10 pounds
Must satisfy the continuing education requirements as required by the Florida State Board of Dentistry, including, but not limited to a current CPR Course.
Must know when and how to refer patients needing medical treatment or dental treatment beyond the scope of the clinic or dentist's capabilities.
Must be able to assist in the training of dental assistant students in the practice of dental assisting as required by College of Central Florida.
Must be able to provide diagnostic, restorative and oral surgery care on indigent patients who are eligible under the rules set forth by the Florida Department of Health in Marion County.
Must be able to work with the dental program manager in maintaining an organized dental clinic.
Must be able to work with volunteer dentists and hygienists so that the clinic is maximally productive.
Must have a working knowledge of OSHA standards, including infection control and hazardous materials.
Must provide after hour's phone numbers in case of emergency.
Must be able to create a Word and Excel document with a given set of information.
