Dental Patient Services Specialist (Oral Health Clinic/Alberta)

Position Description

This position is responsible for assuring smooth operation of the clinic patient flow. Employees serve as primary contacts for patients and are responsible for scheduling appointments, preparing necessary paperwork before the patient visits, receiving patients, and maintaining records. In addition, this position is responsible for processing charges for clinic services, filing insurance claims, responding to requests for information from patients and insurance companies and maintaining related information for the department. Employees may have cash handling responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic office equipment and computer skills; email, PC, Telephone, 0-Key, Excel, Word

• Knowledge of various managed care plans and private insurances

• Knowledge of referral and authorization processes

• Proficient professional telephone skills

• Ability to interact effectively and efficiently with others

• Ability to work in a busy environment

• Ability to understand and follow instructions; some familiarity with dental procedures

• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a variety of people

• Work closely with staff, manager, supervisor, dental students, and administration

• Bilingual capability. English and Spanish

• Willing to work M-F 0800-1700, some extended hours and holidays are possible

• Minimal one year dental office experience and working knowledge of dental billing codes (CDT) preferred

Required Qualifications

• A High School diploma or GED

• 1 year Customer Service, office, or related experience

• Additional education may substitute for the experience requirement
