Serving the people of Southwestern Alaska, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Hospital is a 50-bed general acute care medical facility. Fully accredited by JCAHO, services include adult med/surg, pediatrics, obstetrics, emergency room, as well as outpatient family medicine clinics, pharmacy, lab, and imaging.

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing dental hygiene treatment to patients and to actively participate in the YKHC dental disease prevention program.

Position Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene or a Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene required.

  • Two years Dental Hygiene experience preferred.

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Must possess Alaska License to practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist, or a Registered Dental Hygienist serving as a Commission Corps Officer. Current BLS and CPR certified.

  • Dental equipment, Dental instruments, Clinical Product Suites, Telemedicine

  • Dental Hygiene, Public Health preferred

  • Supervise Dental Assistants I and II

Planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the operation of the YKHC Dental Program. Provide clinical dental services within the priorities of the YKHC Dental Department and oversee dental disease prevention and dental health education efforts in the Subregional clinics and surrounding villages. Scope of Authority The Director of Dental is responsible and accountable for the operations of Dental Services. The Director of Dental supervises the daily operations of the department. Department/Program Development The Director of Dental is responsible for the systematic development, alignment and deployment of goals, objectives, initiatives and action plans for department and programs. The Director is also responsible for ensuring that the goals, objectives, initiative and action plans are aligned with the corporate strategic plan, and aligned with other department and programs within the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation. Finance The Director of Dental is responsible for the completion and maintenance of annual operating and capital budgets for the Dental department including projecting volume, revenue and expenses. Compliance The Director of Dental is responsible and accountable for deployment and compliance with corporate policies and procedures, applicable local, state and federal regulations, grant/funding conditions and accrediting bodies, including The Joint Commission. Performance Improvement Ensures departments and programs under supervision actively participate in Performance Improvement activities as described in Corporate Performance Improvement Plan including, * Planning, including design of processes, selection of measures, and deployment of requirements, * Execution of plans, * Assessment of progress and capturing of new knowledge, * Revision of plans based on assessment findings, learning, new inputs and new requirements. Human Resource Management The Director of Dental Services is responsible for ensuring that employees under his/her supervision are competent to complete job duties by development of systematic selection requirements, and systematic evaluation of employee performance and competence, including customer contact requirements, customer satisfaction and ability to work with others. The Director of Dental is responsible for systematic development and deployment of outcome measures, process measure and financial measures. Represents Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in regional and statewide committees and task forces. Position Qualifications: * Minimum Education: DDS or DMD degree from a dental school accredited by the commission on Dental Accreditation of the ADA. Completion of at least one year of a dental residency program preferred. * Minimum Experience: Two years experience as a clinical dentist. Dental public health background, cross-cultural experience, and/or two (2) years practice in Y-K Delta area preferred. * License, Certification, Registration: Current license to practice dentistry in the State of Alaska. Credentials necessary for appointment to the Medical and Dental Staff of YKHC. * Equipment/Tools/Word-Aids: Dental equipment and instruments * Specialized Knowledge and Skills: General dentistry, and clinical administrative knowledge preferred. * Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise all Dental Department employees.
