ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examine patient's oral cavity to include mouth, throat, and pharynx, and record conditions of teeth and surrounding tissues. Refer patients to dentist who have abnormalities to include cavities, defective fillings, suspicious growths, or periodontal disease.

  • Apply desensitizing and other topical agents to treat abnormalities to include caries

  • prevention, gingivitis, and oral ulceration.

  • Instruct patients, individually and in groups, in proper oral hygiene care using materials to include teeth models, displays, slides, toothbrushes, dental floss, disclosing tablets and mirrors. Demonstrate proper techniques of brushing, flossing, and use of necessary periodontal aids. Explain the common causes of tooth decay and its relationship to general diet.

  • Take impressions and construct sports/safety mouth guards and soft night guards for vital

  • bleaching.

  • Polish restorations and apply pit and fissure sealants.

  • Chair side dental assisting when directed by the Officer-In-Charge of the dental clinic.

  • Record patients treated. Check and maintain instruments to insure working condition.

  • Clean, sharpen, and sterilize instruments.

  • Patient Workload, Readiness, and Scheduling. Utilizes the Corporate Dental Applicationto enter patient specific workload and readiness status and also for patient scheduling.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Degree: Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree depending on the program.

  • Education: Successful completion of a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA).

  • Certification: Certified in radiography as required by 42 CFR Part 75.

  • Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions.

  • License: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Dental Hygienist.

Legal Authorization to Work in the United States: HCWs performing under this contract must be a U.S. Citizen as defined by the Department of Homeland Security, U. S. Citizenship, and Immigration Services, either a noncitizen national of the United State, lawful permanent resident of the United States, or alien authorized to work in the United States.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

Place of Performance: The work to be performed under this contract will be at Naval Hospital Yuma

Recognized Holidays: Contract HCWs will not be required to work on federally recognized holidays.

Hours of Performance: The performance hours of the MTF are as follows: Services shall be provided in the assigned clinical area Monday through Friday, excluding the day of observance of federal holidays, between the hours of 0600 and 1700 for an 8.5- or 9- hour shift inclusive of a 30 minute or 1 hour uncompensated meal-break depending on shift length. Unless services are required in accordance with this paragraph, in no instance will the HCW exceed 80 hours per 2- week period. Any changes in the schedule shall be coordinated between the HCW and the Government.

Dental Hygienist will not be required to work on federally recognized holidays. Additionally, services may not be required on the workdays immediately preceding, and following Federally established holidays, and local base holidays (Easter), as stated in the Commanding Generals, I Marine Expeditionary Forces addressing Holiday Routine Observances which is published each fiscal year. There are an estimated total of 12 non-paid days designated by the Commanding Officer. Contract Companies will be notified a minimum of 30 days in advance of any Non-Paid days. The command will communicate to the COR for notification to the company. The HCW's company will notify their personnel of the designated Non-Paid day.

Closures: During a planned closure of the facility due to training, holiday or unplanned closure due to unusual and compelling circumstances (e.g., natural disasters, military emergencies,severe weather), the Contractor will be compensated for the unplanned closure.
