Summary:To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Current licensed to practice as a dental hygienist in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia Safety Training to Take Dental Diagnostic Radiologic X-rays: Dental x-rays are a diagnostic tool that can help the dentist see any damage or disease that isn't visible to the naked eye. You will be expected to take x-rays as part of your work.

NOTE: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as dental radiographers. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Examples of specialized experience for Dental Hygienist that equipped you to successfully perform the duties of this position at t his grade level include the following examples: plan and evaluate preventive health programs for patient groups; develop and revise instructional material; administer oral prophylactic and dental hygiene treatments; under direct supervision administer local anesthesia; record medical and dental histories, administer caries prevention agents, desensitize root surfaces, root planning, sealant application, take and pour impressions for casts, removing sutures. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

OR Successful completion of (a) a 1-year dental assistant program or completion of 1 year of a dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Accreditation that included a course in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; and film mounting; or (b) practical nurse training approved by the appropriate State, territory, or District of Columbia accrediting body. <br><br> Safety Training to Take Dental Diagnostic X-rays. All applicants, wanting consideration at the grade GS-03 must show evidence they meet the requirements of Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Typically, the Dental Assistant at this level is trained by the Dentist and may have received a certificate of completion. <br><br> Or, typically a course is taken during the course of formal training as a Dental Assistant.
