Position Summary Under close supervision, the Dental Assistant will assist the Dentists with all procedures administered to the patients within the practice. Sets up treatment rooms with necessary materials and equipment for dental treatment.Maintains logs, inventory, infection control standards and escorts patients. Cleans instruments in accordance with sterilization policies and procedures. This is a part-time position, 3 days per week from 8:30 am to 5:00pm. Job Responsibilities Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Appropriately hands dental instruments to dentist during treatment of patients. Arranges treatment area with all necessary supplies and equipment. Assists in escorting dental patients from waiting area to clinical area if needed.Retracts patientsmouth and operates suction equipment to maintain mouth free of secretions. Maintains inventory list of supplies and instruments and places orders. Maintains sanitary conditions in dental rooms and soiled areas. Documents in the Electronic Medical Record. Completes intake and patient screening as appropriate. Ensures appropriate sterility and quality control are maintained in instrument sterilization workflows Maintains equipment in clean working order and retains copies of preventive maintenance and quality control Informs Manager when equipment repairs are needed. Maintains logs, checks reports, changes solutions regularly. Assist with orientation/procedures for new dental assistants. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Education Experience Requirements Completion of a Dental Assistant program certificate required. Bilingual Spanish preferred. High School diploma or equivalent. Prior experience as a dental assistant in a dental setting preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required. Experience in customer service and multi-tasking strongly preferred. Must have ability to use data entry and retrieval systems. Must have ability to use electronic communication and patient information systems. Occasionally move and/or transport up to 20 pounds. Requires movement throughout the department every day. May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospitals SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospitals Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
