Dental Assistant

The Iowa Primary Care Association is currently seeking a Dental Assistant to join the team at a community health center in Council Bluffs, IA.

What is a community health center (FQHC)?

• The largest source of comprehensive primary care for medically under-resourced communities and populations.
• They have an integrated care model - medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services, patients can access comprehensive, coordinated services often under one roof.

Position Details:

• Full time, 40 hours/week;
• Clinic hours: M-Thurs 8AM - 7PM and Friday 8AM - 5PM
• 7 operatories
• Primary responsibilities are to prepare patients for a visit, check-in and check-out patients and schedule appointments and reappointments.
• Procedural skills desired: impressions, radiographs, comfortable with root canals.

Duties:

• Prepares, cleans, and sets up operatories for patient appointments.
• Takes and mounts dental radiographs (x-rays).
• Prepares sterile instruments and equipment.
• Prepares patients for their appointment and discharge.
• Asks about patient's medical history.
• Takes blood pressure and pulse.
• Performs dental assistant duties per provider workflow and practice.
• Provides and assists with patient discharge.
• Provides patients with instruction for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedure.
• Registers patients for appointment.
• Assists with documentation for accurate billing and charting.

Requirements

• Active Dental Assisting Certificate in the state of Iowa
• Iowa Radiology Certification, or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire
• Sterilization Certification a plus
• Previous training and experience in dental assisting.
