Hours: Four 10-hour shifts during the week, Monday
5:30pm (set schedule determined at hire)
Hiring Range: $17.21 - $22.00
The Dental Assistant II provides primary support to dentists for all dental procedures. Assisting dental hygienists, other dental assistants and community programming staff are also a frequent occurrence. Dental Assistants may also provide administrative support in scheduling and confirming appointments, filing and scanning electronic records.
Provides primary support to dentists and hygienists for all clinical dental procedures
Maintains instruments and equipment within operatories
Cleans and sterilizes surfaces, instrument and equipment in compliance with CDC, OSHA and agency specific guidelines
Assists with support of community based dental services
Provides education on dental health and clinic procedures to clients, families and community groups
Takes intra and extra oral x-rays in accordance with NC radiological guidelines, processes and stores images in computer
Monitors and records patient vital signs and procedure notes
Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that meets Dental Assistant II criteria according to the NC State Board of Dental Examiners. You must meet North Carolina requirements to be considered for this position.
(a) an ADA-accredited dental assisting program and current certification in CPR; or
(b) one academic year or longer in an ADA-accredited dental hygiene program, and current certification in CPR
2.Completion of the Dental Assistant certification examination(s) administered by the Dental Assisting National Board and current certification in CPR
(a) a 3-hour course in sterilization and infection control;
(b) a 3-hour course in dental office emergencies; and
(c) current certification in CPR.
(d) after completing Sub-Items (3)(b), (c), and (d) of this Rule, dental assistants may be trained in any dental delivery setting and allowed to perform the functions of a Dental Assistant II under the direct control and supervision of a licensed dentist, except as listed in Sub-Item 3(e) of this Rule.
(e) dental assistants may take radiographs after completing radiology training consistent with G.S. 90-29(c)(12).
(f) full-time employment and experience as a chairside assistant for two years (3,000 hours) of the preceding five, during which period the assistant may be trained in any dental delivery setting and allowed to perform the functions of a Dental Assistant II under the direct control and supervision of a licensed dentist.
Basic computer word processing skills; Spanish language skills desirable.
Knowledge of dental specific CDC and OSHA guidelines. Knowledge of nitrous oxide administration and vital signs monitoring.
License: Current CPR certification
