Job Description:
Job Summary
The Demonstration Assistant assists in the preparation and organization of educational materials for lecture, laboratory, and examinations in pathology courses in the professional (veterinary) and graduate curricula. This includes preparing course schedules and organizing course materials (syllabus, lecture notes, PowerPoint presentations, supporting documents, etc.) for online posting (e.g., Brightspace); maintaining and backing-up course websites; organizing students into laboratory working groups; laboratory set-up, clean-up, and management; preparation of gross specimens, histologic specimens including digital Aperio slides, and photographic images for lecture, laboratory, or testing purposes; maintenance of microscopes and projection equipment; arranging examination review sessions, student-teacher meetings, and ADA accommodations; and ordering supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collect, maintain and update teaching materials.
Assist in the preparation and organization of glass slides/virtual microscopy teaching sets.
Update and replace slide teaching sets as directed.
Compiling photographic images from multiple sources for teaching purposes.
Assist in the preparation, preservation, and storage of gross teaching specimens.
Maintain Brightspace (online teaching application for teaching materials) and examination software.
Maintain and organize lectures, laboratories, case presentations, course roster within Brightspace.
Train and assist other faculty and staff members using Brightspace
Revise course materials with Brightspace updates
Perform routine laboratory duties
Assist graduate student teaching assistants in their duties
Order supplies.
Make solutions.
Maintain laboratory and prep rooms' organization and cleanliness.
Supervise laboratory teaching rooms, oversee annual REM safety inspections
Coordinate with other course technicians
Responsible for laundering laboratory PPE and autoclaving disposable items according to REM standards
Digital Imaging (Aperio eSlide Manager)
Obtain slides for digital scanning as directed
Organize/folder according to course needs.
Train and assist other faculty and staff members in eSlide Manager
Assist with course examinations
Distribute and return exams.
Proctor exams as needed.
Organize ADA accommodations for applicable students
Assist in grade filing for official University use
Maintain exam keys and set up exam reviews.
Oversee maintenance of microscope/video equipment
Responsible for microscope care including scheduling periodic cleaning.
Maintain and set up projection microscope for the weekly professional and graduate laboratory courses.
Serve as a contact person to interact with PVM IT department (MIIT).
