Demand Planner, Model 3 Build Plan

Tesla is hiring a Demand Planner to manage the details and implementation of the Model 3 build plan. This role is responsible for arranging the balance of supply and demand at a daily level down to the SKU, coordinating closely with production and the rest of the demand planning team to align with the quarterly plan. Ideal candidates are masters of data analysis with a passion for optimization problems, with experience in finance, supply chain, or computer science preferred.


  • Maximize the short-term alignment of Tesla's factory production to actual and expected demand

  • Own the details of the Model 3 build plan, from timing of production batches down to paint configurations

  • Develop automated models (especially using SQL) to maximize detailed build plan alignment to demand and hit shipping cutoffs within production constraints

  • Build and maintain normalized SQL data sets to support automated planning models

  • Operationalize detailed plan using Demand Planning order management systems and by working with Production Planning, Logistics, and Supply Chain teams

  • As a primary user of Demand Planning's factory-integrated IT tools and systems, demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and adhere to regular schedules for planning cycles

  • Align with allocation and inventory planning teams to ensure smooth handoff from production to logistics and sales operations

  • Identify risks to quarterly plan execution and proactively solve by identifying and organizing cross-functional solutions


  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability

  • Strong SQL skills required; Python or other programming experience preferred

  • 4+ years related experience in Demand Planning, Supply Chain, Business Planning or Production Planning, or other comparable experience with operations optimization

  • Proven experience solving structured optimization problems

  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel required

  • Proven ability to independently own an operational process, especially within a complex supply chain

  • Self-motivation, strong work ethic, and a passion for being hands-on in their work
