Defense Researcher and Technical Writer, Senior

Key Role:

Support a Department of Defense (DoD) organization by collecting and organizing information required for preparation of documents, training materials, reference guides, studies, and reports. Provide technical edits to organizational documentation, manuals, reports, or other documents and presentations. Conduct and document research for DoD, national security, foreign policy, or international affairs topics of interest to the client's mission. Author learning publications that draw from a variety of sources, including observations and reports from lessons learned across various databases. Assist with development of model templates for the organizational adoption and use in the dissemination of learning materials. Research and analyze large datasets and volumes of source material to discern meaningful insights and lessons learned that can be institutionalized into DoD-wide learning publications. Use strong writing, editing, and communication skills to analyze and present complex information in a format that is easy to read and understand. Develop innovative solutions to complex problems.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience as a technical writer

• 5+ years of experience performing research, preparing studies, and conducting analyses on global defense, national security, foreign policy, or international affairs topics, issues, and initiatives

• 5+ years of experience writing clear, concise, and accurate documents, technical specifications, reports, brochures, manuals, or publications for external audiences

• Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook

• Ability to communicate research findings, technical developments, and information to various external audiences

• Ability to work with senior leaders, respond to changing priorities, and adapt writing style to various audiences

• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and independently with minimal guidance

• Ability to obtain a security clearance

• Master's degree in English, Political Science, or International Affairs

Additional Qualifications:

• Experience with consulting, including government consulting

• Experience as a published writer of professional articles or journals

• Experience teaching courses of instruction in a classroom environment

• Experience with leading and facilitating large-group meetings

• Experience developing presentations and briefings for use by senior leaders

• Knowledge of Department of Defense organizations, culture, and processes

• Knowledge of various style guides and rules of grammar and punctuation

• Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Secret clearance

• Doctorate degree in English, Political Science, or International Affairs

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $75,600.00 to $172,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
