Caterpillar Defense currently has an opening for a Defense Aftermarket Product Manager located in Peoria, Illinois. As a Defense Aftermarket Product Manager at Caterpillar, you will manage complex Aftermarket programs involving Caterpillar, the U.S. Government, and allied militaries.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership in programs of specified Aftermarket Caterpillar products and markets

  • Manages complex programs, which are long term in nature for the purchase of assigned Caterpillar products by the U.S. Government and primarily involve lifetime sustainment of commercial products

  • Provides leadership and direction to a support team comprising of four personnel responsible for achieving all service life extension program (SLEP) goals

  • Coordinates with internal engineering, manufacturing, purchasing groups, suppliers, dealers, shipyards, and the various government agencies to win business and then execute the contract while maintaining maximum customer satisfaction

  • Serves as the primary customer focal point to address concerns throughout the service cycle by providing specific direction for the performance of all work

  • Provides direction to the business unit effort for major proposals including; scope of service, suppliers, exception to terms, influencing specifications and negotiating final agreements

  • Develop specific plans for program execution, monitor performance and continually shape outcomes to desired results that will meet the annual business plan

  • Provide input into departmental marketing strategies for assigned products and markets

  • Develop, implement, and achieve annual business plan including top-line revenue, accountable profit and OPACC

  • Identify parts placement opportunities and determine technology enhancements which offer cost/value for the customer

  • Direct the activities of the program team, extended dealer network and agencies to maintain an above 90% return rate of assigned SLEP end-items

  • Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, etc.

  • Monitors adherence to quality standards and develops action plans for addressing below standard performance

The position requires up to 40 percent of travel.


Basic Qualifications:

  • 4-year college or university degree required

  • 9+ years of Service and/or Product Support experience

  • Requires thorough knowledge of company products, product applications, merchandising programs, and federal acquisition regulations.

  • Understanding of mechanized claims processing, service data systems and U.S. Cat dealer service operations is required

  • Understanding of military maintenance practices for machines and engines

  • Previous supervisory experience

  • Self-starter, able to work autonomously with strong communication and presentation skills

Job Overview The Product Manager will have responsibility for the overall global marketing for Komatsu mining Truck product line (HD785 - 960E). The position will require substantial worldwide travel for meetings with our plant personnel, vendors, regional subsidiaries, distributors, and end-use customers. Annual budget to be approximately $1 million. Annual sales totaling approximately 200 units and $250 million, primary markets include 1-Australia, 2- Chile, 3-North America. Motivate, encourage and lead three (3) direct reporting staff toward a team approach to doing business and achieving goals. Sales and market share goals will be developed by the Product Manager, and approved by the Director Product Marketing & Planning Division VP/GM, and Office of the Chairman. Key Job Responsibilities * Provide high value technical sales support to worldwide Komatsu regional sales teams, global accounts teams, and distributors through day-to-day sales and marketing activities, product training, customer visits, competitive comparisons, job studies, and presentation to achieve sales and profit objectives. * Lead, coordinate, and execute new product introduction programs, including sales material, parts stock, advertising & promotion, competitive comparisons, training and sales support. * Lead the Product Planning effort to develop and implement strategic product development plans and all stages of new product development, according to market indicators to ensure ongoing product suitability, competitiveness and profitability. * Develop annual worldwide market analysis report and product action plans. Describing in detail the sales results, goals, profitability, global & regional market trends, competitors' actions, and priorities for prior and upcoming years. * Conduct machine and customer surveys to determine customer needs, trends, opportunities and competitive information. Develop appropriate action plans based on survey results. * Act as chairman of assigned "Product Team". Coordinate activities of manufacturing, engineering, parts, and service engineering as they relate to marketing and meeting customer needs. * Recommend changes, improvements, modifications or deletions in assigned product or products, based on regular analysis of market trends and opportunities. * Develop and maintain highly effective sales tools for in-house training, distributor and customer presentations. Advanced degree (MBA) beneficial but not required. * Experience in sales of marketing in the construction/mining industry, equipment supplier, or dealer min 10 years, with international assignment. * Strong leadership skills supported by superior communication and presentation skills, including computer proficiency (MS Office, application tools as required) * Strong ability to analyze complex technical situations, determines root cause, identify actions, and lead resolution and implementation. * Internal and outside sales/management training courses, industry experience. * Highly organized and efficient time manager, especially relating to optimizing travel and customer/product visits. * Knowledge and experience with the product development process, including new product development from concept to production. * Demonstrated human relations skills to lead, direct and motivate people.
