The Role

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.

Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

This position is in the Submarine paint group in E33 working to provide technical support for the coatings deck plate preservation for new construction VCS and CLB. Consistent interfacing with the trades and contractors to provide technical deck plate support to accomplish blasting and painting operations.

Review of process and quality information such as records on the various submarine programs. Developing and processing technical documentation such as ER's for issue resolution and researching applicable specification requirements. Working in locations such as various B&C facilities, dry docks, and within the ship tanks and voids. Attending in-process inspections, discussions with trades and production management to facilitate issue resolution.

Must Have

Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate

  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate

  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice to Have

  • Significant experience with surface preparation and coatings application and related activities.

  • Familiarity with SAP, ER's, WDR's, Submarine coating records and detailed requirements.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, and self-motivated.

  • Ability to work within a team environment with minimal oversight.

  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office Applications.

  • Experience reading and interpreting paint schedules, ship specs and procedures.

  • Project management, leadership experience.

  • Minimum NACE 1(CIP-1)/NBPI certification.

  • Apprentice graduate or trade experience.
