TRC's Research and Consulting (R&C) team, within the Advanced Energy practice, is focused on developing and deploying decarbonization and clean energy solutions for our clients - utilities, non-profits, local governments, and state and federal agencies. R&C is a multi-disciplinary research-based consulting team that helps internal and external clients develop and optimize scaled clean energy solutions grounded in technological, economic, policy, market, and customer insights. Our research consulting projects are focused on how advanced energy solutions like energy efficiency, demand management, distributed energy resources, emerging tech, microgrids, storage, and electrification can help drive clean energy transformation.

TRC is seeking a Decarbonization Technology Research Pilot Manager to contribute to our electrification portfolio. This role will have the opportunity to shape the future of building electrification by advancing emerging technologies, smart controls optimization and interoperability, analytics, and innovative utility program design. They will use their technical project management expertise to implement innovative electrification pilots and advise regulatory entities on advanced strategic electrification approaches.

They will also communicate their pilot findings and technical knowledge to collaborate with a cross-functional team that consists of researchers, policy experts, engineers, program management, operations, outreach, marketing, IT, and other support staff. The ideal candidate will have a background in managing research demonstration pilots and projects that support utility measure development and program design, as well as an understanding of the electrification technologies and policy landscape. As a key member of the Research and Consulting team, you will manage the implementation of electrification pilots and help manage the project pipeline ensuring accurate forecasting and reporting.

The ideal candidate would have an understanding of residential electrification technologies such as heat pump water heaters, heat pump HVAC or air source heat pumps, induction ranges, electric dryers, electric infrastructure, smart panels, circuit splitters and more. The ideal candidate will be creative and help us bridge the gap between technology solutions and the future of new innovative electrification programs by successfully managing pilots. They will be able to explain technical concepts and data to nontechnical stakeholders in meaningful layman terms.

With minimal direction from their manager, they will be able to complete meaningful independent research projects and provide value to the building electrification portfolio. The position will be located at one of TRC's California offices: Irvine, San Diego, San Francisco, Oakland, or Rancho Cordova (Sacramento). Responsibilities As research pilot manager, your responsibilities will include:

Manage large-scale research demonstration projects, which includes: Lead a cross-functional project team. Serve as point of contact for client(s). Manage and track program progress, budgets, and scopes of work.

Assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client satisfaction needs. Manage relationships with partners, including prime contractors and subcontractors. Support demonstration project research tasks, in collaboration with senior team members:

Develop research approaches and project plans that will address clients' needs, in consultation with senior team members. Collaborate with subject matter experts from across organization to ensure that projects incorporate industry-leading comprehensive, multi-disciplinary solutions. Ensure that project team understands research goals and support the team throughout data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results.

Communicate project results effectively to stakeholders with varying levels technical understanding, both verbally and through written deliverables. Synthesize information across multiple data sources to translate results of research projects into actionable recommendations for clients. Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

PhD with 3+ year of experience, or Masters degree with 5+ years' experience, or Undergraduate degree with 6+ years' experience. Applicable degrees include Architectural Engineering, Engineering, or other relevant fields focused on residential electrification, building science, and or energy systems. Demonstrated competency and experience in demonstration pilots or technical program management (in years of experience corresponding to degree, as listed above). Experience in the energy efficiency or construction industry.

Self-motivated, collaborative with a positive attitude and a passion for decarbonization. Experience supervising internal and external cross-functional teams on pilot programs or projects. History of successfully managing project budgets, timelines, and deliverables, including multiple priorities and competing deadlines.

The ability to effectively communicate with executive-level personnel as well as entry-level support staff, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated familiarity with demonstration pilot practices and processes, analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to understand and navigate different customer relationship management systems and databases.

Strong organizational skills. Proficient in MS Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Ability to work in the United States.

DESIRED SKILLS 5+ years project management experience in energy efficiency or construction industry and at least couple of years of energy efficiency/technical experience. Knowledge of electrification technologies, load balancing controls, national electrical code, and/or California Title 24. Experience with demonstration pilot operations or management.

Energy efficiency related certifications Aptitude for Microsoft Dynamics or related CRM type software Experience working in a technical field. Paid time off contingent upon full time or part time status and level of seniority (ranging from 15 to 25 days per year). All full-time employees enjoy a minimum of 8 Paid Holidays per year. Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
