Dean of Visual and Performing Arts

Hiring Range: $114,961.60 - $149,448

Reporting to the Provost, the Dean of Visual and Performing Arts is a core member of the Academic Affairs leadership team, contributing to the Division's strategic vision. A collaborative, student-focused academic leader with solid experience, the Dean of Visual and Performing Arts is the administrator responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the Department's academic and fiscal operations, including course scheduling, budget development, and implementation, hiring, credentialing and supervision of faculty and staff, oversight of Academic Program Review and resolution of grievances. Additionally, the position supports the academic operations of the Performing Arts Center, two art galleries, and a variety of music, theater, and art labs spaces. These responsibilities include programs and activities at the Prescott, Clarkdale, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, and Sedona locations. Success in this position contributes to the overall success of the College.

Hiring, credentialing, supervision, and performance review of Visual and Performing Arts department faculty and staff.

Oversight of course schedule and assignment of classes and teaching facilities across all delivery modes in cooperation with the Associate Vice President of Instructional Support and the Director of Scheduling.

Enhance the visibility and reputation of the arts programs within the college and community.

Conducts reviews and appropriate mediation of grievances and student complaints.

Creates a positive working environment within the Division/Department and works cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with the College's strategic objectives.

Participates on district committees on various issues related to academics, instruction, curriculum, faculty affairs.

Reviews data to prepare academic program reviews and decisions regarding programs and resource management within the Department.

Plans and implements professional development activities for full time and adjunct faculty in the department/division.

Supervises the preparation of catalog material for the department/division.

Responsible for budget preparation, monitoring, verification, and reconciliation of expenditure of funds for the department/division.

The Dean is also the Department's liaison to other areas of the College and provides additional administrative support to the provost as directed.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

  • Master's degree

  • 2 - 4 years of demonstrated academic leadership experience

  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, listening, organizational and team-building skills.

  • Experience in budget planning and management.

  • Regular on-site attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Earned doctorate in the field of visual or performing arts preferred

  • 5+ years of academic leadership experience at the associate dean level or higher in class schedule building, budget management and problem solving and conflict resolution.

  • Experience fundraising and grant development

  • Significant leadership and teaching experience in a visual or performing arts field with specialization in one or more content areas

  • Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment.

  • Familiarity with accreditation standards of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC); institutional and programmatic assessment and accreditation.

  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered success and experience working with diverse populations in an inclusive learning environment.
