Position Title Dean of Transfer Position Number 5114 Division Transfer Department Academic Affairs Job Description

The Dean of Transfer provides the strategic and visionary direction for all credit-bearing degree and certificate programs in the Transfer Academic Focus Area (AFA). The dean works closely and collaboratively with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and direct reports to set policy, recruit and retain quality faculty, make budgetary decisions for the AFAs, and assure student success. The dean facilitates the review of existing programs, strengthening of transfer relationships between MCC and partner institutions, and developing robust learning outcomes assessment initiatives with Associate Deans and faculty.

The AFA degree programs are Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts Transfer and Associate of Science in Liberal Arts. The Academic disciplines in the transfer area include English, Huminites, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

1.Provides administrative direction and oversight for designated Academic Affairs Area.

2.Supervises Associate Deans for designated disciplines; English/Humanities, and Math/Natural Sciences.

3.Provides leadership for all faculty and staff in the academic focus area.

4.Solves complex problems in an open and collaborative manner.

5.Refines and develops strong communication mechanisms within the academic area as well as with other areas of the college and throughout the community.

6.Collaborates with academic employees to develop systems that support learning.

7.Oversees and facilitates stronger transfer relationships with 4-year institutions locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

8.Develops effective scheduling strategies to maximize use of all facilities and participates in planning for future growth.

9.Collaborates with transfer partners at University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) establishing and developing partnerships designed to foster seamless transfer back and forth between MCC and UNO.



  1. Oversees evaluation processes for personnel and programs.

  2. Participates in the hiring and orientation of new faculty, both full and part-time, with the intention of creating a team of diverse, high quality instructional personnel.

  3. Leads review of general education requirements and policies.

  4. Assists the Vice President for Academic Affairs with faculty and student issues.

  5. Coordinates the annual budget for designated area.

  6. Provides leadership and coordination for annual Program Services Review process.

  7. Facilitates processes to address facilities and equipment needs for the Transfer AFA.

  8. Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1.Knowledge and awareness of issues related to transfer and general education and the relationship between general education and program degrees.

2.Knowledge of scholarly work directly related to curriculum development.

3.Knowledge of the Nebraska Transfer Initiative (NTI), the Transfer Equivalency System (TES), and Transfer Nebraska.

4.Knowledge of monitoring and evaluating programs.

5.Knowledge of MS Office Suite and other College-supported systems.

6.Skill in planning and organizing as well as ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.

7.Skill in supervising, training, and evaluating staff.

8.Communications skills, both written and oral; excellent spelling, grammar and editing skills.

9.Possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.



  1. Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  2. Ability to work with administrators from other four-year and two-year institutions to facilitate productive transfer processes.

  3. Ability to engage and collaborate with community partners, and other educational partners to plan strategically and develop partnerships leading to relevant educational opportunities.

  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle sensitive situations.

  5. Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.

  6. Ability to train, evaluate, mentor and direct employees and managers to meet desired objectives.

  7. Ability to manage by example.

  8. Ability to maintain professionalism, patience and understanding in stressful situations.

  9. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

Required Qualification

Master's Degree in a Transfer (Humanities, Social Sciences, or Math/Science) discipline, Education Administration or related field plus five (5) years of work-related experience.

Experience working with community partners, and/or Educational partners.

Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Salary/Hourly Rate Commensurate based upon experience Department Transfer
