Job Description:
This stewardship will include oversight and leadership to continue to build faculty capacity in their role as stewards of the curriculum and champions of a robust academic enterprise. The Dean, who reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, will join the alliance of senior academic administrators and faculty to ensure sustainable programs, identify, encourage, and support new program implementation and foster alternative program delivery methods through which students will thrive. The work will include assessing and ensuring sustainable faculty workloads, a course master schedule that allows for full student engagement, a professional development program that fosters faculty growth, a full suite of academic tools that align with student learning needs and academic facilities that enhance the learning experiences.
The scope of the Dean's role will also include guiding, in partnership with Institutional Effectiveness, campus academic leaders in the continued implementation of the academic assessment plan, including the use of curriculum maps and data to assess attainment of identified student learning outcomes.
The Dean's work portfolio will include:
Faculty Growth and Development through
Working with faculty on the recruitment and hiring of diverse faculty members, both full-time and part-time, to meet campus teaching needs
Supervising faculty and staff and participating in vital evaluation processes in coordination with Department Chairs, the Provost, and the Director of Human Resources that provide clarity and direction to measure progress
Managing faculty renewal, tenure and promotion processes
Assess and Strengthen Academic Program Viability including
Assessing the achievement of program health indicators including enrollment trends and student success in partnership with the Vice President of Strategic Enrollment and Innovation
Facilitation of interdisciplinary degree programs and initiatives
Assisting Admissions and Academic Affairs with recruitment and retention activities
Contributing to a campus culture that provides student hands-on, real world learning via opportunities including classroom curriculum, internships, undergraduate research and entrepreneurship
Leadership including
Holding regular meetings of all department chairs
Serving as a point of contact for student concerns about faculty, classes, or academic policies
Representing Academic Affairs on campus committees and with external partners, including facilitation of external partnerships
Promoting the development and implementation of campus curriculum consistent with SUNY and MSCHE guidelines
Partnering with faculty across campus, to articulate the value of the Liberal Arts curriculum within the context of agriculture and technology focused majors
The Dean will work closely with the Provost on the following matters:
Stewardship of resources including budget development and oversight
Faculty personnel matters
Operation of the campus learning spaces, including traditional classrooms and laboratories as well as the farm and other agricultural laboratory spaces
Development of new academic programs, initiatives and partnerships, including online programs and alternative program delivery options to grow the academic enterprise of SUNY College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill
Successful candidates for this position will have demonstrated experience in the following areas:
In addition, the successful candidate must provide evidence of:
Teaching and/or supervising either interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary work among or within different disciplines and departments
Strong leadership skills and impact on an academic initiative
Ability to facilitate implementation of an institution-level strategic or assessment plans within and across academic units
Ability to guide and support departments in building relevant degree programs, certificates, micro-credentials and workforce development initiatives
Faculty & staff hiring, evaluation, and development
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate or other terminal degree in a discipline that is represented within the academic portfolio at SUNY Cobleskill
A distinguished record of teaching with college and university service appropriate for appointment as a tenured full professor at SUNY Cobleskill
At least a 5-year record of increasing responsibility and success as a leader and manager in academic administration within higher education including supervision of faculty and staff
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have:
Expertise and experience in agricultural management or activities
Experience in securing external funding

The salary range is $120,000 - $125,000
