QUALIFICATIONS:
An Illinois Professional Educator's License (PEL) required
A Master's degree, preferred
An administrative certificate (type 75 or principal licensure), preferred
Minimally, 4 years of teaching experience
A record of successful experience in an educational setting
Experience in leadership, experience working with and managing student behaviors, and administrative experience preferred.
The individual(s) need to have a working knowledge and experience of intervention strategies to facilitate positive replacement behaviors.
The individual(s) must be committed to the social, emotional, behavioral and educational development and well-being of students.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Dean of Students will be responsible for performing his/her duties, including assisting in creating a positive learning environment for all students. The Dean of Students will assist students in achieving success to the greatest extent possible by assisting them behaviorally, social-emotionally, and in all academic programs, services, and opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by appropriate school educational staff.
Refine, monitor, and oversee the elementary school-wide behavior management system
Oversee developmentally appropriate schoolwide and grade-level specific management systems
Serve as the point person for student behavior issues including the provision of supports, communication with families, the effective return and reintegration into the classroom community (to minimize loss of learning)
Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues and student discipline.
Assist the principal with the responsibility for protecting the health and welfare of students.
Keep accurate and detailed student discipline records, documenting discipline measures.
Analyze elementary school wide behavior data to design responsive student interventions.
Use data to identify students in need of behavior intervention and/or other intensive support plans.
Support the effective classroom & elementary school wide execution of the school's social emotional learning (SEL) curricula.
Utilize school adopted SEL principles and practices with students experiencing behavioral challenges.
Support the implementation of curricula-specific professional development.
Coordinate behavior interventions and support for identified students.
Use data and collaborate with teachers to develop, monitor, review and modify behavior support plans.
Facilitate student breaks, check-ins and other interventions as written for students with identified needs.
Participate in 504 or IEP meetings, as appropriate.
Provide professional development and ongoing training / support for teachers around effective implementation of behavior plans.
Conduct classroom observations to progress-monitor students with identified behavioral needs and/or behavior support plans.
Regularly and effectively communicate with families utilizing school-adopted communication systems and platforms.
Proactively and positively engage with families on a regular basis, seeking first to celebrate student progress, and next to problem-solve around challenging situations.
Develop and sustain relationships with colleagues and school staff that are positive, collaborative, and generous.
Demonstrate positivity during meetings / professional development and participate actively, contributing in a way that advances the conversation to a new level and pushes the thinking of others.
Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the Principal in managing the school; assumes the duties of the Principal in the absence of the Principal and as assigned.
Assume additional responsibilities when necessary and/or when asked. Participate in school events and activities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
At this time, this job has only student supervisory responsibilities, no staff supervisory responsibilities are necessary, including evaluating certified staff members.
COMPENSATION:
Compensation similar to other 210-day administrators
EVALUATION:
Evaluated annually in accord with procedures as approved by the Board of Education.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As provided by the Superintendent and the Board of Education.
