Duties

The Dean of Students will articulate the goals and objectives as set forth by the school community and will provide the leadership necessary to attain those goals.

Prerequisite Abilities, Knowledge and Skills:

1.Knowledge of and skill in the application of all statutes, rules, regulations, case law, and school district policies affecting student records, enrollment, and supervision.

2.Knowledge of and skill in the application of all statutes, rules, regulations, case law, and school district policies affecting employee records.

3.Demonstrated leadership and ability to work effectively with groups and individuals.

4.Demonstrated skills in organization, communication, and problem-solving.

Performance Responsibilities:

1.Accepts responsibility as delegated by the principal and/or assistant principal(s) for the administration and supervision of the high school in accordance with the policies developed by the Board of Education.

2.Participates in school district planning and decision making in such a way that the best educational interests of the high school programs and the district in general are represented.

3.Implements the systems of evaluation and supervision of instruction developed in the district for the improvement of professional teachers and instruction. This includes observation, report preparation, conferencing, assisting, and providing instructional leadership.

4.Assists the principal and/or assistant principal(s) in the administration of instructional and curricular programs for the building.

5.Evaluates and supervises the work of support staff as directed by the principal and/or assistant principal(s).

6.Assists the principal and/or assistant principal(s) in the development of inservice programs for the building staff.

7.Assists the principal and/or assistant principal(s) in developing, maintaining, and communicating building procedures to staff, parents, and students.

8.Assist the principal and/or assistant principal(s) in directing the development and maintenance of effective student record systems.

9.Assists the principal and/or assistant principal(s) in developing and/or maintaining effective building safety, emergency, and disaster procedures.



  1. As requested by the principal and/or assistant principal(s), shares responsibility for recruiting, screening, interviewing, recommending, orienting, and supervising the non-certified support staff.

  2. Implements board policies and collective bargaining agreement provisions.

  3. Maintains adherence to all applicable federal and state regulations and laws.

  4. Assist the principal and/or assistant principal(s) in developing and/or maintaining an effective school/community relations program appropriate for the high school and the district.

  5. Supervises student conduct and assumes responsibility for the enforcement of discipline as necessary, providing due process for the rights of students.

  6. Refer students to the principal and/or assistant principal(s) for suspension (out-of-school) for willful and persistent violation of school regulations.

  7. Supervises the development and maintenance of student attendance records.

  8. Assists in the supervision of accurate records regarding the progress of students through report cards and conferences.

  9. Administers the student attendance policy.

  10. Assists the principal and/or assistant principal(s) in supervising the health programs and practices which are deemed necessary by the school nurse and/or other health officials.

  11. Supervises the use of the school building by the community.

  12. Serves as a liaison between visitors to the building and school personnel.

  13. Attends and participates in meetings of the Board of Education and its committees as directed by the principal.

  14. Leads and participates actively in professional growth activities.

  15. As requested, acts as the principal's designee for special education conferences, Section 504 conferences, and intervention proceedings.

  16. Assist the principal and/or assistant principal(s) in responding to calls from the district's security company.

  17. Supervises student activities and ancillary areas.

  18. Performs any other duties as assigned by the principal, assistant principal(s) and/or Superintendent.


Qualifications

License:

1.Illinois Professional Educator License and the individual must be in the process of receiving their administrative certification.

Degree:

1.Bachelor's Degree

2.Current enrollment in University Principal Preparation Program

Experience:

1.Three years of experience in secondary education.

2.Completion of Teacher Evaluation Modules 1-5.

Salary/Benefits

The Board of Education shall employ a Dean of Students and/or Assistant Principal for a period of not less than ten and one-half (10.5) months. Work year to be established by the Principal. The 2024-25 Dean of Students Salary will be not less than $80,000.00. The 2024-25 Assistant Principal's Salary will be $90,000.00. Benefits include TRS pension contribution, health, dental, vision and life insurance, personal leave days and sick days, fitness reimbursement and an Employee Sick Leave Bank.
