General Description:

The Dean of Student Success, Safety and Wellbeing (Dean), in collaboration with the Principal and/or Assistant Principal (Grade Level Principal/GLP), provides leadership to the school by taking overall responsibility for the support and development of students. This team comprehensively identifies and monitors students who need and receive support. The Dean works with the Principal and Assistant Principals/GLP to develop and maintain comprehensive interventions needed for students. Designs and maintains programs that promote student wellness, family partnerships, and quality advising for students. The Dean supports the Administrative Team in fostering positive student behavior and creating an atmosphere of mutual respect between faculty and students, staff and students, and students toward each other. Leads the restorative practices programs and supports MTSS initiatives for students and develops and implements restorative practices with the Administrative Team. The Dean will collaborate with Lead Security and Building Security Officers to maintain campus safety and security. Serves on the building leadership team as requested by the Principal. Assist the Building Administration with the daily operations related to student attendance, discipline and supervision, to ensure the safety and security of the school environment.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Employees are responsible for obtaining/retaining the most current statutory and administrative rule requirements for their position.

  • Education/Training: Master's Degree or higher

  • Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a high school level endorsement and

  • Endorsement: General Administrative endorsement or Principal Endorsement

  • Experience: Five years of successful teaching experience in high school, accomplished, experienced educator and leader

  • Knowledge/Abilities/Skills: Ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Counseling or Social worker background preferred

  • Experience with Restorative Practices preferred

  • Experience with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) interventions preferred

  • Knowledge and understanding of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) practices/policies preferred

  • Successful leadership and/ or administrative experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*:

  • Implements and promotes the use of the behavioral components of Restorative Practice inquiry techniques and conferences, Response to Intervention and Positive Behavioral Interventions and MTSS to effectively provide core instruction and intervention.

  • Act in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, statues and/or policies that relate to students and families and consult with school personnel to ensure compliance in those areas.

  • Direct oversight of grade level student behavior, attendance and academic success

  • Support the development, implementation and monitoring of student behavior, and attendance.

  • Provide a variety of strategies of restorative and mindfulness practices

  • Lead Team Meeting (Culture/Climate, Mindfulness, MTSS Behavior, Restorative), etc. As requested by the Principal and/or designee

  • Serve on the Building Leadership Team as requested by the Principal

  • Monitor and evaluate student intervention plans

  • Meet with staff to discuss data trends, problem solve with teachers to prioritize the teachings that will most impact student performance

  • Demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills

  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the district

  • Develop, implement and support a system to ensure a positive school climate for students and adults

  • Supervision of school functions and events including weekends and evenings

  • Collaborate with Principal, Assistant Principals/GLP, Lead Security and other staff as required

  • Supervision and evaluation of certified and classified staff as required

  • Create and maintain web page for the office to include but not limited to announcements, tiered intervention strategies, contact information and celebrations

  • Organize, manage and communicate the discipline process with building staff and offer feedback to staff, parents and students for discipline infractions

  • Collaborate and participate in the development of MTSS and Restorative Practices

  • Provide supervision for participants and spectators at school sanctioned events

  • Consult with parents, staff, district personnel, community and individual students to ensure that each student is placed in an individualized program that best meets their identified needs.

  • Participate in IEP Meetings as required

  • Eagerness to collaborate with district staff and grow professionally by participating in ongoing leadership development opportunities

  • Participation on various district committees as required.

  • Develop, implement and monitor a plan to ensure a positive school culture and climate for all students, staff and parents

  • Support teachers/counselors in developing SEL strategies that promote positive classroom behaviors

  • Enforce school policies after teacher's discipline measures have been exhausted and ensure that the feedback loop is closed with teachers and parents

  • Promote attitudes, behaviors and skills for improved learning

  • Work collaboratively with student support teams (counselors, social workers, psychologists) to promote a positive and caring school culture for students and teachers.

  • Assist in the orientation of new students, parents and faculty

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of existing behavior management strategies and programs; make recommendations for improvement, as necessary to the Principal and Assistant Principal/GLP

  • Implement restorative discipline practices, including facilitating restorative conferences with teachers and students and coaching teachers in leading restorative conferences.

  • Provides structure and organization in the oversight of MTSS/Tier 1, 2 and 3 Interventions and teams

  • Supervise and assess in-school behavioral programs to develop a comprehensive approach for targeted supports and interventions

  • Evaluation and Supervision of assigned certified/classified staff required

  • Shares supervision of Summer School as required by the needs of D209

  • Other duties as assigned.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board's policy on evaluation of personnel. All evaluations shall comply with State and Federal law.
