Job Description The Dean for Clinical Medicine for the Knoxville location is responsible for the administrative oversight of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the Knoxville location.The Assistant/Associate Dean will provide leadership and oversight for the educational program in the final two, clinical, years at the Knoxville location and will work closely with the Associate Dean & CAO Knoxville and the Assistant/Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical/BMS Knoxville to provide clinical oversight to the clinical portions of the first two, preclinical, years of the curriculum. The Dean will demonstrate a commitment to Interprofessional clinical education throughout the curriculum.
Required Qualifications D.O. degree (AOA/COCA accredited COM); and *five (5) years or greater of related leadership experience in post-baccalaureate health-related academic programs with direct student contact, *demonstrated knowledge of undergraduate and graduate medical education; *eligible for licensure in Tennessee;certification by an AOA board; *eligible for faculty appointment at LMU-DCOM, preferably at associate professor or professor rank.Preferred Qualifications *Post- undergraduate and doctoral training experience teaching basic sciences, medical, and graduate courses; *at least five(5) years full time equivalent experience in the practice of medicine.
Campus LMU-Knoxville Job Duty: promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students and to the community at large; Job Duty: promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff and students; Job Duty: participate on University and/or DCOM committees; Job Duty: prepare required reports; Job Duty: complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the operation and advancement of University programs; Job Duty: plan, submit and oversee an annual fiscal year operational budget for the department of clinical medicine at the Knoxville location; Job Duty: identify personnel needs through the determination of an annual strategic plan; Job Duty: evaluate personnel performance to achieve departmental goals, provide assistance with performance measurement, and strategic planning; Job Duty: assess clinical issues at DCOM at LMU Knoxville, including supervision of clinical department chairs within the clinical medicine department and recommend personnel actions pertaining to the acquisition, promotion and/or retention and dismissal; Job Duty: manage the department of clinical education, including oversight of clinical rotations, the effectiveness of the components for years 3-4; Job Duty: ensure development and dissemination of an orientation plan for year 2 students in preparation for rotations; Job Duty: develop and maintain academic quality of current clinical rotation sites; Job Duty: work closely with the Associate Dean & CAO Knoxville and the Assistant Dean of Pre-Clinical/BMS to monitor appropriate content, effective delivery, and consistent coordination with the delivery of the clinical curriculum and systems courses; Job Duty: oversee and maintain clinical medicine meetings with chairs and faculty, including clinical course and systems directors; Job Duty: orient transfer students as needed and determine their schedules for third and fourth years; Job Duty: implement and maintain a grading and evaluations system of clinical site rotations; Job Duty: assist with the recruitment and identification of new clinical faculty; Job Duty: provide periodic and appropriate feedback to clinical rotation sites and preceptors to ensure continuous communication; Job Duty: oversee courses such as Essentials of Patient Care, Osteopathic Principles and Practice, Essentials of Clinical Rotations, and all clinical rotations courses; Job Duty: oversee adequate service delivery to clinical rotation sites, including monitoring faculty development activities for clinical faculty, appropriate onsite training, as well as off-site training for didactic, office and hospital based teaching; Job Duty: provide informational sessions to new or proposed rotation site administration and physicians; Job Duty: support the drafting of the AOA COCA standards review and/or self-study documentation for the clinical and faculty sections; Job Duty: serve as an example to learners and colleagues of appropriate professional behavior; Job Duty: participate in scholarly activity; Job Duty: serve as mentor to medical and other students; Job Duty: provide service by attending scheduled faculty meetings and by serving on appointed and or elected committees as required; Job Duty: complete required institutional, program accreditation and other reports necessary for the operation and advancement of University programs; Job Duty: demonstrate and supervise students during clinical educational activities utilizing standardized patients and/or volunteer patients; Job Duty: supervise students during authorized and approved patient care events including health fairs, sports physicals, or community outreach programs; and Job Duty: perform other duties as assigned.
