Job Summary:

The Dean of Academics is responsible for providing the assistance to the Principal Academic Officer in the instructional, operational, cultural, and administrative management of the school program and operation. The Dean of Academics will work cooperatively with the Principal Academic Officer and administrative team to support charter goals, and initiatives. The person will be held accountable for the continuous improvement of the school, its staff, and for increased student achievement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Aid the school community (students, staff, parents and community members) in the collaborative development and implementation of a school vision for student achievement and strong character development

  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local mandates and guidelines related to local and state testing programs, special education program, and the philosophy, policies and goals of the School Board

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of school culture and student behavior plan

  • Ensure effective implementation of student and family support systems

  • Develop and maintain positive community and parent relationships

  • Assist the Principal Academic Officer

in the overall administration of the school; interpret and enforce school and school division policies and regulations

  • Provide assistance in planning and implementing a professional development/growth program for teachers and staff

  • Observe and evaluate teachers and paraprofessionals in the areas of classroom culture/management and instructional practice

  • Supervise teachers and departments as assigned by the Principal and aid in the coordination and supervision of guidance services

  • Serve as Principal Academic Officer in the absence of the Principal Academic Officer

  • Aid in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other school support services; help conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities

  • Requisition, record, and audit supplies, textbooks, and equipment

  • Serve with parents, faculty, and student groups, as requested, in advancing educational and related activities and objectives

  • Identify the special needs of students on a regular basis; seeking the assistance of school specialists as required

  • Maintain a variety of files; prepare periodic and special reports as required

  • Adhere to and promote the implementation of all guidance programs

  • Assist students and faculty to create a Graduation Plan for each student

  • Schedule conferences with parents and students to discuss graduation track and any other topic that relates to graduation

  • Provide students with a positive role model and individual mentoring

  • Conducts campus tours to ensure that school and school board policies are being enforced

  • Participates in school based leadership opportunities (i.e. team meeting, Lead teacher meeting, etc).

  • Convenes scheduled meetings with School Administration to discuss individual cases and the well-being of the student body

  • Performs other duties as assigned

B.A. or M.A. and Florida State certication

Minimum of three (3) years of teacher experience

  • Knowledge of the social and cultural factors impacting employment success

  • Effective communicator with strong oral and written skills that work with all audiences

  • Strong and effective behavior management strategies

  • Ability to communicate effectively with the Principal, teachers, scholars, families and partners

  • Knowledge and demonstration of using innovative skills in instruction (analytical thinking, problem solving, communicating, collaborating, and finding and evaluating information)

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to utilize technology for communication and instruction to work with parents, students, and other service agencies\

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency through prioritizing and following through on commitments

  • Ability to maintain and model high standards of professionalism

  • Evidence of ongoing professional learning and reflective practice to continuously improve student and adult learning

  • A working knowledge of current research and resources in instruction and leadership

  • Proficient use of the computer

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
