The University of Akron invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Health Professions. The University seeks a collaborative and decisive leader who is committed to promoting excellence in all facets of the health professions.
The Dean of the College of Health Professions is the chief academic, fiscal and administrative officer of the College, reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost. The Dean has responsibility for the College's instructional, research and outreach environment, including oversight of its $19.3 million budget, faculty recruitment and retention, advancement and external relations, and student academic affairs.
The Dean is expected to provide leadership and advocate on behalf of the College, to embrace the mission of public education in an urban environment, and to help create and implement a framework for excellence within the College that incorporates diversity at its core. Working collaboratively with President Gary L. Miller, who began his tenure in October 2019, the new Dean will have the opportunity to develop and implement a vision for the future of the College of Health Professions.
Candidates must possess a doctorate in a discipline relevant to the position, currently hold the rank of tenured Professor and have a record of scholarly achievement and academic accomplishments appropriate to the individual's academic discipline. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of administrative and managerial experience within an academic environment.
A dynamic leader with the ability to sustain and grow the College's excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service and drive its further development and growth in enrollment, disciplines and degrees. We seek an experienced, visionary, entrepreneurial, innovative and student-centered leader.
The preferred candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to an inclusive culture of inter-professional education and health care delivery, the effective translation of research into clinical practice and strategic community engagement. Experienced advocacy, strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate are preferred, including the ability to recruit and mentor high performing faculty.
The College of Health Professions offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and brings together the Schools of Allied Health Technology, Counseling, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, Social Work, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and Sport Science and Wellness Education. The College of Health Professions partners with regional and national health systems to educate and train health care professionals.
