The position of DeafBlind Services Coordinator develops and strengthens services based on the evaluation and identification of services provision needs for DeafBlind populations in North Carolina.  This position serves as a liaison among DSDHH's Deaf Services Specialists located at various regional centers, Regional Center Managers, and the Executive Program Coordination and Accessibility Resources Program Teams.

Job responsibilities

  • Responsible for community development through trainings, presentations and public outreach as well as enhancing the overall ability of the community as a whole related to self-advocacy.

  • Responsible for skill development in members of the community seeking to improve Support Service Provider (SSP), CoNavigator (CN) and Protactile (PT) skills.

  • Collaborates with DHHS sister agencies and community partners to strengthen their capacity to serve DeafBlind populations and is involved in both internal and external workgroups and committees.

  •  Working knowledge of the needs of the DeafBlind population.

  •  Ability to coordinate DeafBlind Services.

  •  Ability to communicate effectively in American Sign Language (ASL) and in writing.

  •  Ability to design and present training about DeafBlind population needs, Deaf Culture, communication access and barriers, and advocacy.

  •  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers of services, advocacy groups and other organizations.

Management Preferences

  •  Working knowledge of structure and operations of agencies and service providers and the delivery of services.

  •  Ability to research, analyze and interpret State and Federal laws and formulate these laws into policies and procedures related to the program area.

  •   Ability to collect and analyze data and information.

  •   Ability to participate in program planning, evaluation and quality control methods.

Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience;

OR

Bachelor s degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of related experience;

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
