POSITION OVERVIEW
About the Position
To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student, and to make the school facility an attractive, pleasant and productive place in which to work and learn (i.e. a learning organization). Provide leadership to students and families in the Deaf education programs: elementary, middle school and high school. Work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Experience
Three years of full-time teaching experience in a PreK- 12 setting
Two years of experience as a principal or assistant principal in grades PreK-12
Other Requirements
Must possess or have the ability to posses an Arizona Principal's Certificate by the time of hire.
Must possess or have the ability to possess a valid Arizona DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card by the tie of hire.
Fluent in American Sign Language

Participates in individual conferences with staff, students and parents at mutually agreed upon times.
Develops and implements a discipline policy which is fair and consistent, well understood by the students and parents, and which aims for self-discipline as an ultimate goal.
Exhibits professional and ethical behavior toward staff and co-workers.
Keeps in confidence information that has been obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
Reviews responsibilities and cooperatively determines school objectives with the assistant superintendent in accordance with Edkey and school goals.
Adheres to the letter and the spirit of the agreement with the professional staff assuring that each staff member meets Sequoia's requirements (i.e. curriculum mapping, assessment and record keeping).
Holds regular and special faculty meetings. Fosters a team approach to decision-making by encouraging staff input at all levels of educational concern, when appropriate.
Interviews and recommends prospective staff members in accordance with Edkey policy. Provides orientation and training for new staff members.
Keeps up to date with developments in various subject areas, teaching resources and methods and make relevant recommendations regarding changes to instructional plans and activities
Maintains appropriate staff records in accordance with Edkey policy.
Ensures suitable substitute procedures.
Coordinates the curriculum (including monitoring curriculum maps) so that students move from level to level according to their rate of achievement and ability. Monitors student progress and assessments (including all relevant benchmarks) throughout the year.
Provides for a continuous program of curriculum development and evaluation of said curriculum. Addresses essential learning (what students need to know) and how it will be evaluated.
Reviews the results of program evaluation and student achievement with staff and makes appropriate recommendations to the main office for programs and personnel.
Acts as team coordinator among staff, specialists, consultants and parents in initiating and implementing individual educational plans in accordance with Edkey policy and state and federal laws.
Gives recognition to those staff members who attempt innovative approaches in implementing the curriculum, in addition to those who constantly perform commendable work.
Supervises and evaluates teachers on a continuous basis as established by Edkey policy. Recommends teachers annually for renewal or non-renewal of offer.
Conduct individual teacher conferences and reviewing individual lesson plans
Formulates staff development goals cooperatively with individual teachers and assists in the attainment of those goals.
Encourages and supports extra-curricular activities for staff and students, and committee assignments for staff whether school or company-wide.
Ensures that students are properly supervised at all times.
Develops and administers school opening and closing procedures as well as special programs and assemblies.
Identifies and allocates educational resources.
Recommends candidates for open positions with the best available teachers (see teachers' professional hierarchy).
Attends administrative meetings held with principals and the main office.
Structures time for faculty to have opportunities to interact with one another, parents, and the community.
Serves as liaison between the school(s) and the transportation director (if applicable)
Prepares state and federal reports as required.
Performs other duties as requested by the superintendent's office or the board.
Establishes a positive public relations program with the community and encourages active participation by community members.
Prepares annual school budgets with staff input in accordance with Edkey policy. Follows procedures for requisitions and purchase orders and maintains appropriate records.
Oversees custodial work or contracted to ensure facility cleanliness and safety.
Ensures that fire drills are conducted on a monthly basis and supervises the school's safety plan.
Ensures that record keeping procedures comply with Edkey policy and state and federal laws and regulations.
Consults frequently with immediate supervisor regarding budgetary, curriculum and personnel issues prior to decision-making. Supports and ensures that all administrative and board decisions are carried out.
Keeps abreast of new developments and current research in education.
Seeks and provides assistance, advice and guidance as necessary from colleagues.
Keeps abreast of developments in techniques and content in the professional literature relating to administration.
Takes advantage of appropriate courses, in-service training, and conferences to enhance administrative skills.
Serves on curriculum and related committees.
Seeks and uses constructive criticism to improve performance.
Identifies any factors that may have interfered with administrative effectiveness and works to modify or eliminate them.
Working Conditions
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to initiate sign language, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
