SUMMARY: To provide interpretation for students who have need for an alternate mode of communication due to deafness or significant hearing impairment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

• Interprets for and tutors students with deafness or hearing impairments. Services will be provided within the classroom or other educationally related environments.

• Communicates to the Deaf Educator assignments and academic or other needs of the students.

• Follows the Interpreter's Code of Ethics where deemed appropriate and necessary.

• Spends majority of time working directly with individual children; spends minimal time on typing, making copies, correcting papers and other clerical tasks.

• Reads and follows the building regulations and rules found in the staff handbook.

• When necessary, attends IEP Team meetings to provide input on a student's program and progress.

• Participates in necessary inservice training programs as assigned and takes responsibility for keeping current with training and certification requirements.

Qualifications Profile

• Certification/License: At minimum, have training and certification necessary to provide interpretation for students using alternate modes of communication (sign language, etc.)
