  • Provides direct services for students registered with disability services who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or other Disabilities by leading initial appointments to establish reasonable accommodations and schedule translation services for courses.

Major Duties

  • Meets with new and current students that identify with being Deaf or Hard of Hearing and are registered with disability services. Determines reasonable accommodations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Meets with other students for accommodation requests as needed.

  • Schedules all translation services for students that are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Maintains contracts with vendors. Schedules interpreting services for student requests. Processes invoices for payment for interpreting services.

  • Establishes best practices for working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Meets with faculty and students when there are concerns. Facilitates educational workshops for faculty and staff.

  • Maintains communication with faculty and staff in regards to technology needs. Manages distribution, and storage of assistive listening devices for student use in academic class rooms.

  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises part-time staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

  • Two years' relevant experience.

  • Strong Knowledge of Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) and American Sign Language (ASL) translation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.

  • Experience with software applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation programs.

  • Ability to transport, roll or carry up to 25 pounds of assistive listening devices equipment to assignments across a large campus with varied terrain and weather conditions.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in the following fields, Student Affairs, Rehabilitation Counseling, Disability Studies.

  • Five years' relevant experience

Physical requirements and working conditions

  • Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

  • Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
